I like it. He really fits the mold and should pair nicely with Lowery. We're really going to be hurting at corner this year though.

He ran a 4.56 at his pro day (4.64 at the Combine, apparently)
Those are Ed Reed (4.57)/Kam Chancellor(4.62) times.

But no range!

Even without 40 times, he has the BEST range in the class....l

Just now watched his highlights, had alot of Ints and is a very very hard hitter maybe I should watch highlights before commenting I like the pick though just didn't want a S who can't cover.

Yeah, but if we're basing it on timed speeds, and we shouldn't, he has great speed for a safety. Not sure why those times would suggest "no range" to begin with.

Hopefully we go DB in 4th as well like Sanders Commings we would have revamped 2 of our biggest weaknesses, secondary and O line.

Most big safeties like Cyprien don't have any range because of their lack of speed. Smaller safeties with speed have the range.

I got 4.64 (could have been faster, lifted better) and his numbers come after rehabbing a hamstring/ shoulder injury. It seems he will play the role of the inbox Strong Safety. If he is the next Kam, then count me on board.

My favorite player in the draft, I had him ranked 5 on my big board only because his position isn't as important as LT or an ET. He will be an All-Pro and I can't tell you how physically ill it has made me that my Ravens took Elam over him. He hits like a truck, can cover TEs, has great insitincts, great ball skills, and is a vocal team leader. He also was the best DB and best player along with Fisher at the Senior Bowl, congrats guys.

I kind of expected him to replace Goldson in San Francisco. When he fell out of the first, I wanted him or Banks with the second pick. The guy is a tone-setter.

No. Range should not be determined by forty times, but by ten times is more accurate. Range has to do with a few things.

Agility (how quick the S can flick his hips and take off), Acceleration (to the ball after it has been thrown in the air), and Acceleration (to the ball carrier).

In my opinion, Sean Taylor (4.54) had the GREATEST range ever seen in the NFL. Video below with highlights that shows the unbelievable range, but you don't have to watch the whole video to get the idea.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko1iFkz11xg

Back to 10 yard dash (which points to acceleration) Cyprien got a 1.52.
Let's compare that to some guys who are known well for range:

Earl Thomas (1.56), Bob Sanders (1.50), Nick Collins (1.61), and Jairus Byrd (4.67 40 time & 1.53 10 time) just to name a few.

This is the range variable showing how quick they can go from a standstill to attacking their target. The numbers are not the end all be all. It is about what you see on film and all the men listed are a great case study.

Numbers are nice measurables, but it is the film that matters.
