ESPN just had that 30 for 30 special on the 1983 draft a in it they talked about a deal that had been agreed upon in principle that would have sent Howie Long and another player to the Bears for the 6th pick. The deal fell apart when the league office called the Bears, and the conspiracy theory is they essentially asked the Bears to kill the deal because the league was in the middle of the lawsuit with Al Davis in regards to the Oak/LA move and they didn't want him to end up with Elway (Baltimore was demanding a pick in the top 6 as part of a package in exchange for Elway). I was watching and drooloing over the thought of how awesome it would have been to have had Long added to that d line. Best of all time maybe?

Now 30 years later the Bears will have a Long doning that jersey.
