Jonathan Cooper/OG/North Carolina
62/311lbs
33 arms/10 hands
NFL Comparison: Ben Grubbs/Saints
40 yd dash =5.07----10 yd split=1.74---Bench=35----Vertical=27----Broad=9'0----3 Cone=7.78----Shuttle=4.84

The Good: Cooper will come in and immediately be one of the most athletic guards in the NFL. Hes a very clean player who can come in and play immediately after starting 4 seasons at North Carolina. He plays with great technique, uses his hands well, and plays with great leverage. He gets off the line very fast. His best skill is his 2nd level blocking. He is one of the best pulling guards Ive seen, better than DeCastro last year. He played a huge role in opening holes for Geovanni Bernard the last 2 seasons. Hes also a very good pass protector who anchors pretty well against the bull rush and has a very high ceiling in this area. I think he has the versatility to play any of the interior OL positions. He is a model character who will be a great locker room presence. Overall, he has a very ceiling and a very high floor.

The Bad: Hes a little short for a guard and hes a better fit in a zone blocking scheme. He put up 35 reps at the combine but he needs to play stronger, especially in our offense. Hes not a mauler in the run game.

Outlook: Cooper will come in and be an immediate fixture on our OL. Hell probably move Colledge out of his LG spot. Cooper also has the tools to become a center down the road if our needs change. In that way, he is very versatile. I think he can play all 3 interior OL positions and play at an elite level at all 3. While hes not quite the road grader that some of the other OG in this class are (Warmack, Warford) he is an elite pulling guard and his athleticism gives him a higher ceiling in terms of pass protection which is important in a vertical offense. I think he plays like Ben Grubbs only I think he can be better. Cooper is the definition of a safe albeit not sexy pick but he has pro bowl potential.

Welcome to the Cardinals Jonathan Cooper!!!!

Warmack was the better guard to me but still love the pick.

I'm excited. Future perennial pro-bowler. Can't wait for the season to start!

I don't love the pick like I've loved previous picks because the value isn't there. However, Cooper will be a great player for us and because of that I do love the pick.

Cooper has a lot of things going for him that Warmack doesn't. Cooper is better in space, a better overall athlete, has higher potential as a pass protector, and has the ability to play center which could be huge for us down the road.

Like I said, I don't love it, I don't hate it. A pretty average pick. I'd grade it a B to a B-

Cooper didn't allow any sacks last year and gave up only 1 pressure. Think about that for a second...

Warmack was the phone booth guy. Arians loves to pull his gaurds all over the place and get them playing out in space.

For the Scheme Arians wants to run, one that puts their top guard in space a lot Cooper is a far better fit than Warmack.

I love Warmack but Cooper is more NFL ready. He's older and a bit more polished. Only time will tell which one is better. Maybe the shoulder/bench-press stuff scared us about Warmack...

No, guard is the need. Sendlein isn't good but he could be a helluva lot worse

I highly doubt that.

Cooper is a very intelligent player so I don't think switching to center and making the line calls should be a problem.

Khodder hit the nail on the head. Arians loves to pull his guards and there is nobody better than Cooper. Also we'll be passing a lot and I like Cooper's potential pass protecting more than Warmack.

It'll be interesting to compare Warmack with Cooper throughout their careers.

It definitely won't happen this season. But it's a good option to have if our needs change or hypothetically another great guard develops and falls into our laps down the road. I think he should take some snaps and back up Sendlein though while he's starting at guard.
