It wasn't Geno so I'm happy about that. I really wanted Jordan, so I'm not happy about that. We have Kruger, Sheard (I really don't follow the questions about him playing OLB; new position for him and he does seem a bit stiff in the hips for coverage BUT he was projected as a 34 guy by some teams - he's not being traded)) and "Luv"Groves - so in effect we spend a 6 on a situational pass rusher?

Mingo does have speed and you have to love that and word is he's a high character guy but he lacks strength at the POA and I just didn't get a sense of wow from him. This scenario reminds me of Seattle's last year when they took Irvin @ 15 - I suspect we'll use him rotationally like that, and hopefully Horton works his magic.

So overall a ~phew~ moment considering Lombardi and all that Geno Smith stuff - I'm hopeful, but our glaring hole at CB and Safety looms, I hope we get after that in the 3rd & 4th rounds.

I guess we'll see. It's going to take some time and development, both mentally and physically.

Pretty sure that was Montgomery, not Mingo.

You guys are right, my bad. All this time leading up to the draft I had thought it was Mingo, so that may not have helped my perception of the guy. He has great talent. Hopefully our coaching turns him into tremendous asset. Wouldn't mind to see him add a few pounds and play physical in this division.

Banner saying that they had a trade in place if Mingo wasn't available (must not have liked Ansah). Would be interested in finding out what that trade would have been, but I don't really care because I really like the pick.

I bet it was with the Rams.

I had originally thought they gave a 2nd and 3rd to move up from 16 to 8, but I guess all they did was swap 3rds.

Either way, seeing a lot of guys fall to the 2nd that would be nice to grab one of them.

But, I like the pick

I wasn't really thrilled with this pick as it isn't a real need.

Whatever.

Mingo said he was the contain guy against all of the read option offenses they played, that's the main reason behind his low sack numbers last year. I can buy this, you need your best athletes setup and ready to chase the guy with the ball when facing those types of offense

On Madden I always spy my fastest DLmen against guys like Kaepernick, Wilson, RG3 etc - you have to sacrifice some pass rush to ensure that you don't let those quick QB's run wild on you

I'll say it

Most talented front 7 we've had since being back. If we keep Sheard. I'd also like to add another DE.

Bryant / Winn
Rubin / Kitchen
Taylor / Hughes

Krueger / Mingo
DQ / Fort
Michael Johnson / Robertson
Sheard / Groves

I like the pick...I think we have strength in our D Line, and our LB core...should be fun to watch Roethlisberger and Flacco get lit up like the 4th of July this upcoming season...Hope we get Poyer or Slay in the 3rd...Glad Manuel is gone, too!

After some deep thinking about it I'm starting to like the pick. It brings more versatility to our defense we're going to run 43 to 34 to 42 to 24 everything under the sun, and its better to get all our players to run these different schemes not then to wait to teach them.

I can see them having Dqwell, Kruger, Mingo, and Sheard all on the field at the same time in a 24 set or possibly a 43. Im excited to see all the different looks and hopefully this guy can be our Clay Matthews physically he looks the part so lets hope.

I liked Milliner but can never get mad at them for taking the best pass rush prospect

what I like about the pick, is how quick we made it while on the clock-

our front office really did have him high on the board to not trade the pick and grab him right away.

I think we have a set up similar to the rat birds front seven of last year:

Keke potentially = Tsizzle

DQJ = Ray Ray

JMJ = Ellerby (potentially)

Kruger = Kruger

Sheard = Upshaw (good run stopping)

Rubin,Taylor,Bryant = Ngata, Kemoeatu, McPhee

We're jus younger...

good draft pick

Hate to say it but I think you guys got a potential stud. Many Steelers fans didn't like Mingo but he just seems to be oozing potential.

The main reason I wandered over here though is Jabaal. I am a Pitt graduate and got to watch Jabaal play and I just love the kid. Romeus got all the hype until his injury their last year but Jabaal was as steady of a playmaker as they come. I was already worried about him with your switch to the 34 but what is your honest opinion about what he will be for you in the next couple years.

Stop gap for Mingo?
Traded because he doesn't fit the new defense?
Will find a way to contribute even though Kruger and Mingo are the main contributors?
Run some hyrbid 4 front defenses with Kruger, Sheard, and Mingo (in a Von role)?

I just want him to succeed and wouldn't mind if it wasn't on the Browns Wink .

How do you guys see his career playing out over the next couple of years?

Yep. I just named my three dogs Mingo. Could be confusing but I'm sure they will work it out eventually.

Have not told the Wife yet. She likes the current names.

Lol. Personally I think Barkevious would be a cooler name for a dog.
