God I hope not.

That would be the equivalent of the Jenkins pick. a 3-4th round guy that almost everyone likes

It seems to me that a couple days or so ago there was a rumor floated that we might move up to take a d-line guy. Before that I cannot remember very many posts that were suggesting a trade up to grab a d-line guy. Certainly not a trade up into the low teens. Now the majority of these "surprise" moves include moving up to take a dlineman. A case of group-think perhaps?

I've been wanting us to get a potential Justin replacement for as far back as last draft. I'm just not sure how much we want to give up to take a shot at one, especially with a big part of our defense (Goldson) and of our offense (Walker) not adequately, in my mind at least, addressed. I guess if the team is convinced that Richardson can be another Justin, or Star a guy with the kind of impact Suh has, then maybe. I'm just not jumping on that bandwagon.

I can't speak for everyone, but my belief in that actually stems from carradine. I've said in other posts that I just can't see us trading up for anyone else, and I think we have a very high interest in him. His stock has gone up, thus I see the need to trade up if we want him. A lot of us wanted pass rush help from the jump though, we just thought it'd be datone jones

So are you suggesting that there's a leak in our F/O plans? ... that once Carradine started rising up boards, we made plans to go get him... and that was somehow leaked?

I'm having a hard time believing this "rumor" has any legs to begin with. Seems more a creation of some unknown source that knows we likely have interest in DL help + we have the draft ammunition to move up plenty.

Exactly. Why this rumor is getting so much more credibility than other rumors I don't know. Maybe it's just the most recent one. In any case,, the track record of "leaks" and "hot rumors" about our draft has not been very good over the past few years.

Forge - good thought process in justifying the move-up.

Thoughts while deliberating:
Looking at the new Harvard draft value chart, it is well within the realm of possibility that the 49ers trade into the middle (9-19) of round 1 twice while still maintaining a pick in every round. If that were the case, it would make sense for S. Richardson / Star (if he slips)/ Floyd (if he slides)/ D. Jones (if Trent gets the yips) and either their top rated Safety or an excellent Pass Rusher like Tank.

In this scenario, TB and JH can still work magic and manuever their remaining picks for more picks next season if they feel so inclined. They also get 2 excellent players that can play for 5 years at a discounted rate under their rookie contracts.

My prediction: 49ers trade up twice into the early/middle of the 1st round.

My favorite approach to the draft would be to package all of our picks in one way or another so that we end up with 4 or 5 really high picks and get 4 or 5 future starters, and maybe a pro bowler or two - rather than a bunch of camp bodies who won't even make our loaded roster.

Jenkins wa a second round guy. Also everywhere. And he had good tape.
Rambo does not have good tape and that's too big of a reach, even for Balke.... Maybe at the end of 2.
But I hope not. I'm not a big fan. I like duke and boyett more

There are so many rumors flying around who knows what to believe. But yeah, I have heard speculation of the Niners moving up in the top 15. The thing with Baalke is he is completely unpredictable. Having 13 picks, no way could we keep every rookie so moving up and down will happen quite a bit with us.

No fewer than 7 49ers fans on this forum scream bloody murder after no fewer than 3 of our selections.

but in reality my less bold but more realistic prediction is that we draft Duke Williams at 31.

We trade up into the late teens or early 20's for a Florida State defender, Xavier Rhodes. It's quite possible the only starting quality corner we will have next season is Chris Culliver. Rogers salary might be to big to keep him on and if Nnamdi has an excellent year he'll want more cash. We draft Rhodes and groom him this season to be a starter in 2014.

We follow up the Rhodes pick with DJ Swearinger. He's a thumper who can cover. A young player who really fits the mold of Dashon Goldson and could step in right away and be our starter.

This is the truest prediction on this thread. No matter what happens, fans will be upset.. for about an hour. Then many of those same fans will laud the pick as some magical wave of a wand by Baalke.

Cordarrelle Patterson astonishingly slips to #31 despite the universal draft "experts" consensus that he is a sure fire mid to early first round pick and we...

don't select him as well.
(Just my bust prediction for the year)
