The previous draft thread is almost at 100 pages so I think it may be time to start up discussion in a new thread. The first round is less than 200 hours away and there seem to be large question marks looming all over the draft.

Here's the current order...

Code:
1   1   Kansas City
2   2   Jacksonville
3   3   Oakland
4   4   Philadelphia
5   5   Detroit
6   6   Cleveland
7   7   Arizona
8   8   Buffalo
9   9   New York Jets
10   10   Tennessee
11   11   San Diego
12   12   Miami
13   13   New York Jets (From Tampa Bay)
14   14   Carolina
15   15   New Orleans
16   16   St. Louis
17   17   Pittsburgh
18   18   Dallas
19   19   New York Giants
20   20   Chicago
21   21   Cincinnati
22   22   St. Louis (from Washington)
23   23   Minnesota
24   24   Indianapolis
25   25   Minnesota (from Seattle)
26   26   Green Bay
27   27   Houston
28   28   Denver
29   29   New England
30   30   Atlanta
31   31   San Francisco
32   32   Baltimore

Questions:

1. Who will the first overall pick be?
2. Which team will take the first QB? How many go in the first round?
3. Who, other the Vikings, are likely to trade?
4. Who will be the first surprise pick?
5. Care to mock the first round?

Interesting way to start off the first round discussion.

Hmm. RT @RapSheet: Hear #VIkings want to move up in draft from 23 or 25. Want CB & WR. Moving up would likely mean WR: Austin or Patterson?

Or make promises that don't come true. Smile

As for first rounders, I think there will be a lot of surprises as usual. I think players that have gotten a lot of hype through the draft process as big name college prospects will fall further then expected (Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, etc) and there will be high risers that fans will generally question (Quinton Patton, Jamar Taylor, robert Woods etc).

Wouldnt surprise me if Patton and Woods are part of the top 4 WRs off the board (throw in Patterson and Austin too).

This is why I love the draft, college hype often gets thrown out the window. Its interesting seeing how teams value prospects differently then the general fan/media consensus.

What is often comical is when a team takes a player who has a perceived low value and fans complain about not drafting BPA, but BPA is clearly a subjective term Wink

Ive always had this feeling that the Vikings want Tavon to replace Harvin. Of course this isnt confirmed, but I always had a feeling that the Vikings could trade up a few spots if Tavon makes it to the late teens

I hope we don't move up. We have too many holes and questions on this team. Rather move down and pick up future picks.

For me, it depends on how far the move up is. 23 to 20? At a cost of our original 4th, sure.

23 to 15? No thanks.

Even the 4th from Detroit isnt a bad deal to move up a few spots to grab a target player.

And because of that early 4th rd pick, I really wouldnt mind giving up pick 83 if it came to it.

MN has options, and if they do trade up, there is a possibility of trading down as well and recouping picks.

I'd actually be upset to move the pick from the Lions. It's a prime spot to grab a player falling due to character/injury concerns.

Unless the move up gets us a player like Sheldon Richardson. There is a steep drop off after him. At the other positions I don't feel such a drop off exists.

I saw the segment on the NFL network where this is coming from, and it seemed like completely baseless speculation to me.

It really depends on the specific player available. Take Patterson for example. There really isnt a receiver like him in the draft. If the Vikes want a receiver like Patterson, they dont have many alternatives.

You could say there isnt a dramatic drop off in talent at WR, however, the skill sets that Patterson, Hunter, Woods, and Hopkins are largely different.

Id argue that Richardson doesnt fill a need, unless Williams slides over, and if MN is moving up in the draft i would guess that it would be for a "need" position.

Unless of course they want to trade or cut Williams if they take Richardson.

I don't think they would trade up for a need, necessarily. They would trade up with their board.

It's a late first round pick and, as much as fans may not like it, those picks don't have to step in right away. Williams is gone after this year, better to have his replacement on the team, with a year under his belt. IMO.

Williams should only be playing 55-65% of the UT snaps this year anyway. He's not being moved with the/ $4.9 gtd base salary.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us move up to grab Richardson. He could platoon with Williams until next year and then take over. Seems like a great situation to me! Learn from the best... Very Happy

1. Who will the first overall pick be? Luke Joeckel
2. Which team will take the first QB? How many go in the first round? Geno Smith will be a Raider. I think two go in the first round (Barkley or Manuel).
3. Who, other the Vikings, are likely to trade? I believe Miami will trade up. Detroit will trade down.
4. Who will be the first surprise pick? I think Tank Carradine or Datone Jones go top 15.
5. Care to mock the first round? Ain't nobody got time for that.
