ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal includes roughly $31 million guaranteed, which is $9 million less than DeMarcus Ware received in 2009. It speaks to the ongoing "market reset."

Very awesome, glad we have one big one out of the way!

Glad to see Clay locked up, and for less than Ware. I say that's a big win.

One just needs to understand that contracts are often not how they appear on paper. The way that think is set, Clay will see every dime. Not like you are going to cut him with all that coin up front. Contracts are very telling in many ways. This one would suggest the Packers have a very high trust level with Matthews.

As they should! The hamstring will be the only reason for worry from here on out. Attitude, work ethic, ability, Clay has everything to be one of the greats. Glad he ours for the next 6 years!

I sure as hell would not be the one fighting ya on that one, Ray. Love him! Elite talent + pride can add up to HOF. At the very least is a player you feel good about building around.

Completely agree. I think it's highly unlikely see this contract doesn't go the whole way. Very unlikely we see a huge cap hit later on in the contract, like we will almost certainly see with Aaron.

Love hearing fans of opposing teams laughing at this deal, saying it puts us in salary cap hell.

Matthews is worth every penny. Our defense was ridiculously better when he was on the field.

We have an elite player on both sides of the ball, with both still having upside. How many other teams can say that!

Best outside linebacker in the game? IMHO I think he is, after Von. Best 3-4 outside backer for sure. Better than Ware.

G and Zus. One locked in, now for the one that hurts so good.

Goes to show you how much little people actually know when they say that. The Packers aren't in salary cap hell even with a huge Rodgers extension, with how well Russ Ball has structured our contracts.

Eh, we didn't needlessly blow money on a free agent that will end up being a disappointment and instead took care of our own. Pretty foolish IMO Laughing

People saying this puts us in cap hell (how exactly?) are the same ones that think the Madden video game approach is the only way to win championships.

Bingo off-season has been full of laughs, no doubt. Extend Rodgers annd we would have had as a good as an off-season as anybody if not the best, getting Shields done too would just be sauerkraut on my brat.

Do I dare go to the News forum and see how horrible this signing was?
