This is great news after it seemed like the schedule release would be delayed by 1 or 2 more weeks

Quote:
Fear not, friends, the NFL schedule will become public knowledge later this week.

League spokesman Greg Aiello announced Tuesday that the NFL's 2013 regular-season slate of games will be announced on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

NFL.com and NFL Network's "Schedule Release '13" programming simultaneously will reveal this year's lineup.

In other news, this is a good time to look at that Week 1 schedule that I made a while ago. I had to make some adjustments since my original schedule was based on Denver winning the Super Bowl and I forgot about 1 key element (CBS cannot air any late games due to the US Open, so I changed the Raiders game). Here's my latest schedule for Week 1:

Thursday, September 5

Baltimore @ Denver 8:30 ET

Sunday, September 8

Buffalo @ Miami 1:00 ET
Kansas City @ Jacksonville 1:00 ET
NY Jets @ Tennessee 1:00 ET
Arizona @ Philadelphia 1:00 ET
Tampa Bay @ St. Louis 1:00 ET
Cincinnati @ Detroit 1:00 ET
New Orleans @ New England 1:00 ET
Cleveland @ Pittsburgh 1:00 ET

NY Giants @ Chicago 4:15 ET
Dallas @ San Diego 4:15 ET
Atlanta @ Carolina 4:15 ET
Washington @ Oakland 4:15 ET

Houston @ Indianapolis 8:30 ET

Monday, September 9

Green Bay @ Minnesota 7:00 ET
San Francisco @ Seattle 10:15 ET

Now that we're this close to the schedule getting released, which of these games can you see happening?

The schedule looks perfectly reasonable but one issue is that I don't think Fox has ever had more games in the 4:15 time slot than in the 1:00 slot.

Wow, nice catch. I didnt even realize that there were only 3 early games on FOX and 4 late games. I swear every time I think I have it perfect there's always a quirk lol

Only real way to fix it would be to move either NY Giants @ Chicago or Atlanta @ Carolina to the 1:00 ET spot. Given that New York and Chicago are the #1 and #3 markets in the US and that the late games generally get bigger audiences, it would have to be the latter

Maybe one of the best set of 4 week-one primetime games that I can remember...

Baltimore-Denver (Rematch of the AFCDR game aka F-Bomb)
Houston-Indianapolis (Division rivals and 2012 playoff teams)
Green Bay-Minnesota (Division rivals and playoff rematch)
San Francisco-Seattle (Division rivals and 2012 playoff teams; potential to be the new Baltimore-Pittsburgh)

I think I would be very shocked if we played Pitt in week 1

They almost always push that back to at least halfway through the season.

Please do not bump your own thread. Particularly after 30 minutes.

San Fran vs Seattle wouldn't be a good choice for MNF doubleheader. That's a premiere matchup. Arguably the top two teams in the league and starting to become a heated rivalry. No way they place the game when half the country is going to be asleep. That's a SNF matchup.

MNF doubleheader should be an AFC West game. 1, the divisions not as good now as it could be, so not a big deal if half the country is asleep watching the chargers or raiders. 2, CBS has the open on week 1 so they can't have any late games at all. Which means AFC teams like the Raiders, Chargers, can't play home games unless they're facing NFC teams or on prime time...

I think it should be chiefs vs chargers for that timeslot.

I think San Diego has both opened and closed out the season vs Oakland for like three years in a row. I hope that tradition continues because me and the Raider fans love to play each other on those weekends.

+1. Its become something of a tradition. I like facing SD on MNF week 1.

Why did the NFL delay the schedule release? Were they being drama queens trying to grab attention? Boston?

For once I would like it to be in SD, it seems we always play Oakland to start in the black hole.

I think that it was related to the Chargers being unable to host the opening game at home due to a timetable clash with another team that they share their stadium with.
