Not a surprise. Voluntary workouts are voluntary for a reason. Even still, he's not under contract so he doesn't have to show up for anything until he signs his tender. _________________

I doubt that...I think he's worth a late first at best right now and I think one of the top safety's is gonna pull more than just a late first/early second value. |

Meh its just Voulntary workouts. A lot of players skip voulntary workouts. Plus he's not signed so why would he show up if he doesnt have to. No news here.
I hope we can sign him to a long term deal, soon! _________________

Why would the Bills do that?
Cousins would be..what? 3rd or 4th string after they draft either Geno Smith or Ryan Nassib. _________________

I'd play hardball with Byrd if he wants to hold out and refuse to trade him unless we got a very attractive offer. It can really pay off, as it did with Jim Kelly. Now the question becomes, if he doesn't actually sign the franchise tender, what are the rules for next year?
Could the Bills just franchise him again, and if so, is it at the base rate for a safety since he never signed? If so, that would really give the Bills a strong position once it became clear they'd let him hold out. "Sign with us or never play in the NFL again," would probably get through to him.
All that said, I'm not really worried yet. Byrd's tweet the day he got franchised seemed to indicate he wasn't at all upset by it. Now I think it's just a game between his agent and the Bills FO to try to negotiate a long term deal.
If anything, I think the fact he hasn't signed yet indicates he's likely to be locked up as a Bill for a the next 4+ years before the season starts. |
