http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2013/04/16/nix-our-draft-priorities-havent-changed/

Quote:
“They’re about the same,” said Nix. ”We have added a quarterback so there’s some stability there. Then we’ve added two linebackers which lessens that value here in the draft. What we’ll do is like we always do, we’ll try to take the best player. We’re not going to reach, even for need. We’ll take those guys if there are two or three positions with the same grade then we’ll take the need position.”

This is why I like the guy he takes the best player available not necessarily reach for need and the last 3 1st rd picks have been great fits for the bills and I expect this one to be the same.

Slightly off topic but Doug Whaley was quoted saying that Tavon Austin was very high on our board. Could be a smoke screen to try and trade down but who knows?

The Tavon Austin idea is reminding me of last year with Gilmore. A couple weeks before the draft he was getting brought up a lot with Buffalo. Seems as if the same thing is happening with Austin. Personally, I won't be mad but I'm not a fan of tiny receivers.

Alot of options at 8. IN the article he does say that LB isnt a top need anymore but if he is one of the top players left mingo could be an option which I hope not he reminds me of Maybin.

As for the austin I hope it is a smokescreen because he is so small and the bills have a similar player in TJ Graham who they drafted last year.

I see Geno, Warmack, Cooper, Star, Ansah, Mingo, Patterson, Vaccaro, Milliner, Jarvis Jones could potentially be available at 8. Nix is a guy who believes in drafting olineman later so Warmack and Cooper might not be an option.

If does near as well as Gilmore I'd ecstatic. If he can be half as entertaining in the NFL as he was in college he would be extremely fun to watch and our offense would have some real playmakers. I feel like we would have to use him like Harbin though, which would take carries away from Spiller.

He will be taking a big chance not going QB at 8. I would expect this will be his last draft if he doesn't go QB and we tank again.

This is what nix recently said following the BPA comment

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/16/nix-defends-quarterback-class-says-not-a-reach-at-8/

So he considers a qb not a reach at 8 this basically brings us back to square 1.

Nix fielding questions from social media. I found the last question regarding draft strategy to be the most interesting/insightful...drafting for need = wasted picks!

Sitting here thinking about buddy nix. He had a great draft last year IMO. Gilmore, Glenn, Graham, Bradham, Sanders. Gilmore is a stud, Glenn looks like an NFL left tackle, Graham hasn't shown anything yet, Bradham is already our best linebacker. 3 out of 4 look like hits and maybe Graham gets out of bed this season.

If we draft Ryan Nassib I'd be insanely pissed.

Matt Barkley I'm coming around on, I won't be happy, I certainly won't be happy, but I won't throw beer at my wall like I would have before.

We won't go after O-Line with our first pick. I can't see it happening. Nix recently said that Guard is not a major issue for our team and then when that whole prank of the recorded convo came out with the Bucs GM he said OT isn't a concern either as we have a lot of players on the line. So I just don't see it happening. Maybe in the middle rounds but not our 1st or 2nd round pick.

Nassib would be a hilarious reach because no one in the rest of the first round and probably not even until Buffalo's 2nd round pick will be interested in Nassib.
