DEVELOPING: Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski to have more surgery on his forearm. Could miss start of the season.

Rosenhaus on WSVN-7 on Gronk: "I'm not sure what's going to happen... There's no surgery scheduled, and we're not sure he's gonna need one"

On report that Gronk could miss start of season, Rosenhaus said "that type of speculation is way off. No determinations have been made"

We’re still a couple of weeks away from getting a definitive answer about whether Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to need another surgery on his forearm, but reports from those with access to Patriots workouts bring some good news.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that sources say Gronkowski “looks great” while working in the team’s offseason program while he waits to find out if an infection will force him to have a fourth operation since initially breaking the forearm last season. There have been no unexpected setbacks, which doesn’t mean Gronkowski will avoid an operation but it is obviously better than if more problems had popped up in the last month.

More possible bad news for Rob Gronkowski. A disc issue in his back is being examined and could require surgery:

On Gronk: Had heard he's battling "chronic" back pain and the Patriots were looking into it. This developments explains it.

Rob Gronkowski's back issue considered minor, per source. If he needs surgery it'd be during time frame that he'd be out with arm surgery.

As @MikeGarafolo first reported, Rob Gronkowski has back issue. One NFL source said issue is minor. Another said slightly more.

***Update***
Quote:
Gronkowski will see noted spine specialist Robert Watkins in the near future following his surgery on his forearm. That surgery if all goes well will take about 10 weeks for Gronkowski to recover from.

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/9286968/rob-gronkowski-new-england-patriots-need-back-surgery-source

Still 16 weeks until week 1 of the season... problem is, the doctors don't want to have both the forearm surgery and another surgery so close to each other.

***Update***

Gronk out of surgery. Infection gone. New plate installed. Good news all around.

Did this infection have anything to do with his WWE reenactment?

This is really misleading.

There has been no new diagnose on Gronk's forearm since February. The doctors simply don't know if the infection is completely gone since his six week cycle hasn't finished yet and will know once they put in a new plate.

Man, I hate the media. Confused

Now do you understand why Belichick has added so many tight ends? It's not merely a fascination with the position at all. The health of his starters (Hernandez, Gronkowski) along with his reserves (Ballard, Fells), has been pretty bad. Assuming this news is serious and the condition of Gronk's arm is up in the air, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Pats drafted Travis Kelce outof Cincinnati in the third or late second even, assuming they acquire more picks.

Did the Patriots already extend Gronk long term?

Signed him to a 8-year, $55.23 million contract last off-season after his record setting 17 TDs, 1,327 yards 2011 season.

The operation is to remove the metal plate that was put in to brace the break during healing. No one keeps the metal plate in, they are always removed.

This is the gist of the article. -- While informing the media multiple times over the last few weeks that everything was fine, if it really wasn't and the infection was still there when they remove the plate soon they will have to replace that plate with another one and he might not be ready fro the start of the season.

What do you expect from a Murdock rag.

Agreed.

Good thing about bones is that they heal to almost 100%. Pats fans should be lucky this isnt a ligement injury.

Gronk needs to stay healthy. Or he'll just be another one of those flashers in the league.
