JD, I said I'll start believing if they were the first to 70 wins. Well they weren't the first, but they were pretty close. Very Happy

Russell Martin is clutch.

70 wins in early August? 25 games above .500? Best record in baseball?

Might me time for me to bust out my Andy Van Slyke and Jay Bell jerseys. Sadly, Ive grown 2+ feet and gained 100+ pounds since I last wore them. Laughing

Try going downtown today for the game. It. Was. HELL!!!!

Took me forever to park. I had to park all the way in The Strip just to get there. Got in town before 12 and didn't even get to my seats until 1 Confused

(At least work paid for it all. Plus I got 8 hours of work thanks to the traffic! Razz)

In fact, I do believe they were the 3rd. Boston and Atlanta were first, both very good teams. I'm not going to complain about the fact Boston and Atlanta beat us to 70. I think if we win the division, Atlanta is going to be our biggest competition in the NL, and yes, I do believe we can beat them.

Well, they did take the least amount of games to get there.

The Pirates let two wins slip away in St. Louis and could have swept them instead of losing two of three. Burnett blew it in the fifth after the Pirates gave him a 4-0 lead. He didn't even make it out of the inning and gave up five runs.

They return home for a short weekend homestand against the D-Backs. Shake off the last two series and go get them tomorrow at PNC.

Pirates traded the Mets for RF Marlon Byrd and Catcher Joe Buck today.

And are rumored to trying to trade the Twins for 1B Justin Morneau.

If nothing else it will give us better pinch hitter options if we have guys like Tabata, Lambo, Sanchez and Jones coming off the bench.

How good of a catcher is Buck?

I'd love to see them go get Morneau. I wish this trade would have happened earlier but at least they did get RF help finally.

Once again Morris blows the game for the Pirates. He's been awful when it comes to late inning situations for the past month. They need to switch roles with him so he doesn't pitch in pressure situations. Unfortunately Locke is looking like McDonald last year when it comes to a second half disappointment.

Buck is an inconsistent catcher, but lately he's been better than the average. He's got some good power too; just not a great contact hitter.

Rumors are Vic Black was the PTBNL... I sure as hell hope not.

Vic Black can not be the PTBNL, he's on the 40 man roster. So he'd have to clear waivers in order to be traded. From what I heard, the PTBNL is a decent player that will make many believe the Mets got a great deal. My guess would be Kingham, Barnes, or Dickerson.

A Garret Jones sighting tonight. Liriano was dominant and the Bucs take the first one of a big weekend series at PNC against the Cardinals.

Good luck to Pressley but he didn't have much future in our outfield.

I love it. I haven't been the biggest Huntington fan as I've ripped on him before but going back to prior to the season with the trade of Hanrahan, the signing of FAs Liriano and Martin, and now these two trades to bolster the offense he has made the team a legitimate contender for the World Series. It's been two decades since that's been the case. I don't know how far they will go but he is going for it. He should be the executive of the year without a doubt. It's an exciting time right now for Pirate baseball.
