Childress' exact role is labeled as spread game analyst/special projects. It's an unfamiliar title, but it's expected Childress will help coach Andy Reid find a medium between the West Coast and the spread that Alex Smith ran in college.

Good. Yet another quality hire to the coaching staff. You can never have too many good coaches as long as they have a clear cut role and are accepting of it.

Bingo. That is the key.

So are we going to run a spread now? Awesome, Smith was really good in Meyer's spread. I always thought the spread was very WCO like with short high percentage throws to WR that can get good YAC. Makes sense that Baldwin wouldn't be a great fit, but could learn.

a WCO/ spread offense does sound intriguing

A curious hire. I'm a fan, don't get me wrong, just strange to see an assistant hired on this late in the off season. My biggest concern is that we're going to have too many cooks in the kitchen, if you follow, and cohesion won't come to the staff.

It's still a better problem to have than the one in 2012. Too many cooks > no cooks.

My guess is Reid offered him a standing position in the event he didn't find another coaching position.

I agree on the fear of having too many opinions creating some contention.

They can make all the opinions they want as long as the final say so comes from Reid.

Is it a "quality" hire or a name we know? Really, what has Brad Childress ever accomplished except ascending to the Viking's HC, based on the Eagles’ success, not his own. Then, only to fail and be fired?

Then he went on to be part of the failing Brown's offense.

Thankfully he’s the “Head Custodian in Charge of Spread Formations” or some crap that allows him to collect a check at the Chief’s expense.

I'm not a fan of Brad Childress. Hopefully he doesn’t get in the way.

Has Andy hired his son in some capacity? Oops he did, didn't he? Maybe his mother-in-law can run the summer camp cafeteria?

Lmao.....this was exactly my thought when I saw the second part of Childress' title. By the way mongo, under Childress both McNabb and Favre had their best seasons (according to passer rating). Of course this is a great hire. Not saying he was a great head coach, but I don't think anyone can say the vikings were much improved when he left. It may be hard for you to see through the negativity that surrounds you but he's obviously a very good football mind. I think the " Peter principle" applies to Childress and his time with the Vikings. Hopefully this role will be perfect for him.
