How would you feel about having Young for a back up QB for a year or two? I personally think he would be a very cheap sign and he would be a decent back up QB. The guy has a great record and is very athletic.

He may not be someone you want to carry a team, but his win record shows he can do enough to win with a good defense, which Chicago has. Look at our win-loss record with Cutler out as well, I think he could fair much better, and even if the passing game isn't amazing with the guy, he gives an automatic boost to the run game.

Don't forget we may have some read options in Trestman's playcalling, so he would also excel with that.

How do you feel about it?

Id love to have him as the back up if that ment Cutler does not miss a game. But id still have Rex over VY for a year

I'd honestly rather have Rex. Starting experience plus cheap.

I brought it up in another thread - so I'm a yes. He was a decent QB, will come for cheap, and needs the money.

Typically you want your backup QB to be similar in style to your starter though so they can run the same offense. VY and Cutler couldn't be much more opposite. Personally I'd rather we brought back Hanie. Zero interest in VY from me.

I really don't like the idea of VY in the west coast. Would rather have an older QB that has a lot of experience and can make quick reads and dump the ball off but might be noodle armed. I'd like McCown to at least be the #3, if they decide to go with 3.

McCown is fine as a backup IMO. This system should be far more QB friendly in the event the backup plays and I would much rather we spend our limited remaining FA budget on guys we expect to play every week.

As a #2? I would be okay with that. It remains to see if they'll sign 2 more QBs, or maybe sign one and then draft somebody and make them inactive every week.

VY isn't going to cost anymore than the vet minimum - so money isn't an issue.

If we're talking strictly talent, I'd rather have Young.

I'm comfortable with Young starting three or four games when the inevitable Cutler injury happens. I have no doubt that he can still win games. And I expect he has been sufficiently humbled so that the locker room wont be an issue anymore.

FWIW - Youngs last two seasons in Tennessee he had an 81 & 98.4 QBrtg.

That is the only possibly reason you bring him hereÖand that isnít enough to have him as your backup because if Cutler does go down he canít throw the ball at a high enough level for us to win.

Who is your pick/hope for backup?

The way his market is looking right now I would make a run at Kevin Kolb...he clearly isn't starting material but as a backup in a scheme that is going to get the ball out of his hands quickly I think he could get it done as a spot starter.
