The second kicker is essential for running the "onside kick with two kickers on the field" play.

Just a little bit of competition for Mason Crosby. Not a bad idea.

Worth a look. Much different kicker than Crosby though. Anything but a big leg, but a nice stroke that he can repeat.

Longest in college was 52 yards.

Here's his college bio:
http://www.calbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/tavecchio_giorgio00.html

Freshman year: Joined the team 3 days before the season started. Played due to injury to the "starter".
Sophomore year: 2nd team Pac 10 Academic
Junior year: 2nd team Pac 12 Academic
Senior year: 2nd team Pac 12 Academic

3 time 2nd team Pac 10/12 Academic, consistency from the kicker position!

I hope that did not come off the wrong way, Justo.

I'm not sayin the kid can't kick on Sundays. I'm sayin you can't use a pick on "that" leg. We were taking a look at him when he took the 9ers contract and liked him a great deal. Kids money on anything inside of 45. Anything longer though and he starts pushing the ball to get it there. I'm just sayin this kid is a Longwell, not a Crosby. Short, smooth stroke that he can repeat. But the ball is never going to pop off his foot like a Crosby or a Hopkins from this class. He needs to drive it low to hit the long ones!

No no no it didn't Laughing
I looked at his kickoff numbers and length and kinda figured that his leg wasn't huge. Weird that he missed so many PATs though.

Seeing he got beat out by Akers in TC last year, I doubt Crosby has anything to worry about... Laughing

I don't think anyone would mind having a longwell over a Crosby, but on that note I heard he was already in the nfl and not that accurate with whoevers team he was on before?

Well at least Crosby will have someone in camp to compete with. Still going to be Crosby's job though.

Yeah, I am not by any means saying he is as good as Longwell was. Longwell was a very sound kicker for a long time. Just sayin that that's the type of kicker he is should everything click for him. Same type of stroke to the ball. It's not something that will age well in Green Bay. But you might get a few years out of a guy like that if he is hitting it well.

Those short step guys are often accurate. But they are hell on holders(Longwell sure was) and don't have much pop.
