Is anyone nervous about our middle linebacking? I remember DQ's problems in it the last time we played a 3-4. Namely, he struggled to shed guards. He is much better suited in the 4-3, IMO. I dont want to trade him, because pf the leadership he brings to our team. Does the FO see him as tradeable? if so, what is a fair and plausible expectation we can get for him? JMJ's potential, but I'm concerned about him staying healthy. Do we draft MLB in the mid rounds? Or do we have other pressing needs(FS, G, CB, TE). Will Robertson surprise people? Who do you see starting? Will this be the weak link on the team if we address #2 CB and FS?

I'm not as worried about D'Qwell in the 34 this time around as our D-line play should ensure he doesn't have to take on guards as much. 335lbs of Taylor, 330lbs of Rubin and 315lbs of Bryant in front of him should do the trick.

We do need to add a great ILB at some point though I see that being either in the 1st or 2nd round next year.

When I found out the Browns were switching to the 3-4, the only players I worried about were Jackson and Sheard.

Jackson was above average at best in the 3-4 and he was one of the best MLBs in the 4-3. Part of the reason he wasn't that successful in the 3-4 is due to horrible defensive line play; they didn't occupy blockers and Jackson had a hard time shedding blocks. Now that Jackson has a much better defensive line in front of him, he should be able to move around more freely and thus play at a high level. I think his play will regress a bit compared to how it's been the past two years, however, I think he'll be much better this time around compared to his last stint in the 3-4.

The other ILB spot is a big question mark. James-Michael Johnson could be a good fit there as a starter or he might be backup material. I liked him as a prospect and he showed good signs last year in the 4-3. We'll just have to wait and see what he's capable of in the 3-4. Then there's Gocong, who is rather underrated on this forum. He's slow but he's very good against the run, which is the main thing he'll need to do in the 3-4.

JMJ and Gocong may not be viable long-term options at ILB, but they're good enough for at least this season. We'll have to see how well they play before we declare if ILB is a need or not heading into the 2014 offseason.

I am extremely concerned about our middle backers. I, for one, have never been that high on Dqwell. I have always felt he is very overrated. I think after this year, we are going to have to hit mlb very hard either in free agency or the draft

I have zero concerns about our ILBs.

Two experienced starters who have proven productivity, and a wealth of young ILB depth.

I'm not worried about djax in the 3-4 I feel like he's become a better player since last time he was in a 3-4. I have a fantasy that we go after urlacher and make a real run at this division. But unfortunately that won't happen

Only thing would be if we could bring in Barnett, Dansby, or Daryl Smith in one a one year deal for a good price to compete for a starting spot

Thanks for your input, fellas. I really appreciate the insight. Ever since Kaluka Maiva left, it's been hard for me to think straight. It's a wonder I even get out of bed each day. Please pass the adderol.

When healthy, I don't think Jackson was that bad in the 3-4. The problem was he was the focal point of the offensive blocking scheme because we didn't have many solid tacklers.

There are 11 men on defense if a guard occupies Jackson that leaves 10 guys to tackle the ball carrier with 8 offensive guys blocking. Jackson was blamed too much for our failures in the 3-4 the last time around.

Just my opinion, if you don't like it then you are admitting that you support the torturing of cute fluffy bunny rabbits.

I think Robertson is again going to be a pleasant surprise.
