I actually really, really like this signing. Zbikowski is a night and day upgrade from Anthony Walters. I actually expect him to beat out Steltz as well, I don't buy that this was a special teams signing. Theres been recent specualtion of Hardin seeing time at the NB role as well as a rotational Safety. We'll see but this will most likely be a low contract providing good depth to our secondary.

Walters was brutal when he played safety, even in preseason from what I remember. For the league min., this is a slam dunk no brainer.

Yeah he is an upgrade over Walter...but for me he is still a ST ace more than a safety on this team.

The first two things that come to mind....they are probably looking at him as a possible nickel package guy and gunner. If that worked out, he would be a cheap replacement for DJ Moore.

He isnt replacing DJ Moore

I would assume that'll either be a rookie, Hardin, or someone we snag in FA.

Sounds like they are trying to fill it via FA.

Chances are very good that he replaces DJ Moore as a gunner. Not so good that he plays as Nickel.

But it has become a Springtime tradition.

So now there are currently 8 safeties on the roster. Major and Conte are locks, Hardin I would assume. So the other 5 will battle for 1 MAYBE 2 spots
Welcome aboard. Looks like we are setting up the All Safety Defense, very innovative.

Seconded. I like the signing as well, and could see Harding being the guy to help cover the athletic TEs in out division. My favorite part is Zibs toughness, he never flinches when a RB is coming his way.

I bet we keep 11 DB's on the active 53 man roster. My guess:
CB: Tillman, Jennings, Hardin(NB/S), Hayden*, Bowman, Frey, McManis
S: Major, Conte, Hardin(NB/S), Zbikowski, Steltz

Steltz, Frey and McManis will be inactive if Hayden returns. If Hardin is designated as a nickel back then I would assume Steltz is the one remaining active. We won't have all those guys in uniform come Sunday.

I actually think we go one further and carry 12 DBs on next year’s opening day roster…when you consider Tillman is 32 years old…Jennings is 29 years old…& if we resign Hayden for another year he will be 30 by the time the season starts…that’s our top 3 CBs in a division with passing attacks like GB & Detroit…they all hit free agency next year if you don’t resign them at the age of 33,30 & 31 respectively…we have to start building that position for the future this year and Emery has already stated he likes the depth in this year’s DB class…I see us taking a CB at some point in this draft with the view of potentially starting next year…
I see…

Tillman, Jennings, Hayden, Draft Pick, Bowman, McManis, Frey
Conte, Wright, Hardin, Steltz, Zbikowski

There's no way McMannis will not be active for any games unless there is an injury. He is quite possibly our best STer (and there's quite a few to choose from).

I asked about 6 weeks ago if anyone could see Hardin going back to corner (built in the Sherman mold physically) and was met with a resounding no around here. It'd be great if he could do that (most likely going outside with TJ in the slot) but the consensus around here at least is that he can't fill that role.
