If the Orioles are contending for a playoff spot at that point, it's unfair of them to be forced into a scheduled double header to accommodate the Ravens. It's a potential competitive disadvantage for the Orioles and there is no difference for the Ravens other than the feelings of their fans/the media.

It's just as much of a potential competitive advantage as it is a disadvantage. Would this somehow end up helping the White Sox? I don't see how.

It's not in relation to the White Sox. It's in relation to the other teams in the race.

Double headers can be a headache for the starting rotation. And there is a significant possibility it means either bringing someone up from the minors to pitch a game (disadvantage) or someone will have to go on short rest (disadvantage), in relation to the teams in the race that get their normal pitchers on normal rest.

Frankly I have no problem with this. This is what a 3 year tradition in the NFL? And the idea that they need to open the season I don't get. It's nice, but a monday night game would work just as well.

Confused

What does that have to do with anything???

Has nothing to do with who goes to what game.

This is a goddamn travesty.

I'm an Orioles fan, but I hope absolutely no one shows up for the game that Thursday. It may not even be all their fault, but I don't really care that much. There's always a way to do more.

So what happens when the Orioles are in the World Series and need a favor out of the Ravens?

The world ends?

As much as I dislike the Ravens, this leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

SB Champs MUST open in their home stadium to kick off the year, celebrate with their fans, regardless of the outcome of the game.

Screw MLB and one of their however many hundred games that are played in a season.

I think the Ravens should still open up at home. Watch no one show up for the O's. Would serve the MLB right.

How would the celebration with the fans be any different if the game were the next week instead? The fans wait 7 months to celebrate (mind you - many of the Ravens players on the field that day won't have been on the team, and some of the guys who won the Super Bowl will be long gone), they can't wait one more week?

Yeah this is just a joke. The MLB can easily reschedule it's games, since they play 162 of them a year - whereas the NFL cannot as easily reschedule games.

Say what you want about the NFL "bullying" the MLB, but they deserve the right to have this game be played when it should be played, and the MLB should reschedule a meaningless exhibition game against a mediocre team.

Can't wait to see what happens on opening night. I honestly hope nobody goes to the Orioles game.

Ummm... its pretty easy to reschedule the NFL season when there is no NFL schedule created yet..... just sayin!

And it's even easier to have the Orioles play a DH one day, or move the game to a designated rain-delay day, or move the game to an off-day, or move the NFL game to Sunday Night, etc. etc.

Either way, there's no way it should've came down to "well, we can't both play on the same day, so this won't work..."

Utter BS by both sides.

There have been 2 scheduled double headers in baseball in the last 10 years, for the most part they don't do that anymore.

If both ends of the scheduled double header were rained out and the games were needed at the end of the season to determine playoffs they would have to be delayed.

So, no, MLB shouldn't potentially have to deal with that because the NFL wasn't able to schedule around what was already there.

Maybe Baltimore should have thought about stadium location after they Isray'ed a franchise.
