Why?

Because he's not the 20th best player in the draft, lol he's probably not even the 50th best player in the draft.

Just about every expert disagrees with you.

The guy has weaknesses and he is not at the top of my list, but what he has you cannot teach and that is unique power and a will to dominate.

You give this guy to a good OL coach and you kick him inside with 37" arms and 10.5" heavy hands and he will be a very good short setting OG.

Which is exactly what we need.

For me we don’t want to go into the season with Williams as our starting MLB…too many inconsistencies on and off the field…we still need to draft a new starting MLB early and play Williams at SLB…for the money he has signed for it’s no problem to play him on limited snaps.

D.J. Williams is penciled in as the replacement for Brian Urlacher at middle linebacker, but #Bears likely to add another veteran LB.

From what Phil said Its very likely he starts at MLB.

Yup. Which is why we're looking at Barnett. He played very well at SLB for Buffalo.

Don't like D.J Fluker, that is fine. Add him to the list of guys that Bears fans have thought to be too slow, or too big or unable to trabsfer get positions with Cordy Glenn, Kelechi Osemele, Carl Nicks and Orlando Franklin.

I remember being linked with all of those guys in the draft or FA in the case of Nicks. We have always passed on them, and they've had considerable success elsewhere.

Those type of guys are the new-era NFL OG, and our new OL coach knows it. Fluker makes a ton of sense to me, much moreso than taller, slightly leaner guys like Armstead.

Also love Fluker's intensity and drive. I remember him saying he wants to be the Ray Lewis of his offensive line. That's what I like to hear out of a prospect coming out of the college ranks.

but there is a difference in saying he's no good and saying he isn't worth the 20th pick. I'd be ok with him if we traded down, but at 20, that's just not where he fits in value-wise, in comparison with other players who will still be on the board.

You're right, the Bears should go for a finesse lineman in the mold of Chris Williams... Laughing

not saying he's a bad player for the team, just a bad player for that spot.

Who do you think will be there that is a better value?

Likely someone on the defensive side of the ball in the secondary/DL or an offensive skill position guy. Which is why we shouldn't consider anything other than trading the pick. JA isn't here anymore, we don't have to make a selection at every point our name is supposed to be called.

Who do you prefer, Barnett or Dansby?

As much as I like Dansby from what I've heard he would be a poor fit here.

If A. Brown is there, Im definitely taking him. Xavier Rhodes, or Marcus Trufant I think would be better value there. Patterson if he's there. Lots of people. I just would be much more comfortable with trading down a bit and snagging Fluker if that's what we want

At first I thought you were saying exactly what I did until the quote!

I'd go Barnett because i think he'd ask for less money and would be a better fit.

This. I dont know why a slow footed, directionally challenged Tackle appeals so much to people at a position he, oh yeah, has NEVER played before... But yeah Im buying that he's the BPA Rolling Eyes ...I'm taking Terron Armstead over DJ Fluker 10 out of 10 times...
Any one who plays line for Alabama is automatically ahead of almost all other linemen. They pick the best. It would be hard to go wrong with any of their players.

I like Armstead too but there is no consensus he could play guard and we need guards.

But I doubt you have to fear since Emery has announced his intention to trade the first pick.

I think Emery has concluded there will be no one available at 20 worth the pick. But there are lots worth a second rounder.
