$900K w/ no guarantees is a good # for Williams. When he's on the field he's a very good player. I'm still targeting Bostic in the 2nd round, even w/ this signing.

I agree. Seems like a low-risk yet potentially high-reward signing. The Broncos forum seems to think pretty highly of him too, which is always nice to see. I just hope he gets his issues sorted out for next season.

Great great great pickup by Emery. Great contract for a pretty good linebacker. Hopefully he keeps his urine clean and carpools.

I want to kiss Phil Emery on the mouth.

Exactly...hopefully his head is on straight. If it is, then this is a great signing.

I really like the D.J Williams signing.

He is still playing at a pretty high level and was cut in Denver more for off field stuff than on field decline.

-He has played all LB positions for the Broncos.

-He can still run.

At 900K that leaves 1.1 million from the Urlacher offer for Izzy or and OG.

That is my hope as well.

Hopefully the market is dead for Urlacher, and we can still get him for $2 mil after a restructure or two are done, and Williams can slide to the SAM. Bostic can be put in a position or even learn two as our defense is pretty simple, and if an injury happens he can step up immediately. Next year, he has a starting spot and we can add more talent via free agency or (hopefully) the draft.

With a max value of $1.75M this move is amazing.

Part of his suspension was for a drunk driving that occurred in 2010 and finally ran its course. That's a pretty old incident and makes me feel a little better about the off field stuff.

Who knows exactly how this one works out but I think its going to go well.

And SugarShane, Urlacher isn't coming back no matter what. He has burned all his bridges with Emery and they probably didn't want him at any price anyway.

From Phil Emery:

Quote:
We see a player that has very good upside who can contribute immediately at 'Mike' linebacker. He is also a versatile player who has played both outside linebacker positions, giving us flexibility in the draft

since we're signing former broncos, any interest in Tracy Porter, if he could come at a modest price?

A league source said the Bears have signed former Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams to a one-year deal two days after cutting off talks with Urlacher.

Very good signing for the Bears, IMO. Cheap, too--$900k base salary, none guaranteed.
Their strategy is dictated by their er, lach of LBs: bring in a lot of guys, risky, cheap, and see if you strike some good luck.

Isn't this the guy that tried to pass off some animal urine as his test? Well Broncos and Bears are animals so it might work.

Apparently, he was blazing fast when he came into the league, faster even than Lach.

H\Lach sounded much more accommodating in recent interviews. It is not likely in my opinion either.
