Why on earth did the Ravens ever release him? A paltry $2m odd salary, more to that than meets the eye IMO.

Very good signing for them. And I'm sure Patriots fans approve of this as well.

I like this signing. Bernard Pollard with Gregg Williams. Twisted Evil

about to post this. I knew it was going to happen!

Now all Gregg has to do is find whats inside Bernard Pollard that makes him kill patriots, mutate it so it kills every other team, and spread it to all his players.

The Titans will never lose. Never.

Nice signing, I'd be surprised if he shows the same productivity though. You don't play across from too many Ed Reeds in your career.

Well it's not like Pollard wasn't any good before he went the Ravens. He was always a great in the box safety which is what we needed. Griffin now can stay out of the box(thank god) and play centerfield where he's best at. Love the signing because it brings attitude to our DBs. Him and Gregg are a match made in heaven.

Must be some kind of sick twisted place if these two are in it. Wink

This is a good move though. It should put Griffin in a better spot in the defense, and they have someone back there that can tackle.

Good move Tennessee.

There have been rumblings that his outspoken attitude was rubbing some people the wrong way. Apparently it was both he and Ed who were the biggest proponents of the "mutiny" that the Ravens saw last year -- both guys who tend to open their mouths a bit too quick at times to criticize. Without Ray Ray there anymore, and the new leaders being somewhat quieter types (Suggs -- though he's most definitely outspoken, Ngata, Joe, Webb, Rice) and not as "attention demanding" as Ray was, there have been rumors that the coaching staff didn't want the "speak first, think second" type guys in the locker room to avoid the potential of losing the locker room quickly. Particularly if both are viewed as leaders, young guys could learn to follow suit.

The Titans and Patriots don't play each other in the regular season.

Good signing for the Titans. I think any team who needed a strong safety should have been pursuing Pollard.

The 'mutiny' story is, to me, overblown, and I think it unnecessarily lumps in our decision to move on from Ed Reed with the decision to cut Pollard. By all accounts, that so-called 'mutiny' (which is a dramatic word to use to begin with) was an important moment for the club and actually helped defuse tensions that were starting to mount during a challenging time of the season.

Beyond that, as far as Pollard's conduct goes, if the reports are to be believed, his behavior was far worse off than just a one-off complaint about having to practice in pads. He was allegedly a strong and persistent anti-Harbaugh voice in the locker room, and in terms of the stories that have come out, the most damaging for him is that of his conduct after the Redskins game, when he reamed out Josh Byrnes in front of the entire team, which is not 'leadership' as much as it is bullying.

I don't doubt that his relationship with Harbaugh played a part in releasing him, but I think there's also a fairly simple explanation as far as it relates to his on-the-field ability. I think that for the most part the Ravens knew they weren't going to be bringing back Ed Reed next year, and they felt that Pollard's coverage ability is a liability without someone like Ed to help cover his tracks. Given the signings of Canty and Spears, they clearly came into this offseason planning to beef up the defensive line and improve the run defense, and the thinking goes that if you can stop the run with your front 7, the importance of having a safety whose primary strength is getting into the box to make tackles against the run diminishes. Why have an 'extra linebacker' type of safety when you can simply have your safeties focus more on coverage because the front 7 is capable of stopping the run?

Pollard is an 'old school' player in both the good and bad way. Good in the sense that he can help instill that culture of toughness that the Titans used to have back in the Eddie George days but have lost sight of, but also bad in the sense that he's a safety who lacks coverage skills in a league where the importance of having a strictly in-the-box safety is diminishing. The Ravens are looking to modernize their defense to an extent and I think they also want someone faster and more coverage-oriented in Pollard's spot.

That could explain a lot, the release and the lack of interest in his services.

Big hitter, an atom bomb in defending the run game, cannot cover ANYONE to save his life. There are some good coverage aspects in Titania to make this a good signing...so, smart move for them.

Must say I'm not a huge fan of Pollard. Time bomb and can't cover. He's an enforcer, but those days are gone.

Yup.

My guess is that Griffin and Pollard will start, with Wilson rotating in.

Who knows, maybe we'll run some 3 safety sets like the Giants did.
