As FA progresses and the draft is a mere month away, I wanted to get an idea of how you all would rank the needs on our team. I would probably list them in this order.

OT
OG
S
C
DE

OLB
DT
RB

ILB
CB

WR
TE
QB

DT

OLB
RB
DE

WR
CB

TE
ILB
QB

I think most people have DT as a higher need than I do. I guess it depends on where and how they use Crawford. Stupid Josh Brent... We could of had some pretty good depth there.

also, we tend to do pretty well with mid to late round DTs.

Rat
canty
bowen
liss
hatcher

I'd go with...

OG - Livings & McBurningdeuce suck.

C - We had 4 or 5 guys play snaps at C last year from training camp to the final game. None of them were very good. When Phil Costa is the best player at the position an upgrade is needed. Contrary to what Des would have you believe, Travis Frederick is the answer, not Stanky Schwenke.

S - Injury issues with both returning guys and not much depth behind them.

SOLB - You really trust Albright or Wilber to start?

OT - Free and Parnell were decent as a rotation, but that's not a viable longterm solution.

DE - Even with Spencer in the mix, depth is a concern.

HB - When Murray goes down with his yearly injury, we need someone to take his place.

DT - With Ratliff, Hatcher and Lissemore, we have decent, but not great rotation. Some youth and quickness would be nice.

ILB - If Lee goes down, yet again, who is his backup?

WR - Dwyane Harris is 1 pulled hammy away from being a starter. Yuck. Good thing we have Incredicole or we'd really be in trouble.

CB - We have Claiborne, Carr, Scandrick and some scrubs. If we have 1 injury, we're screwed.

TE - Witten is great, Hanna is ok. But, who is our blocking TE for short yardage and goalline?

QB - Unlike some people, I am realistic in the fact that I know our front office is happy with Romo and Orton at QB. I don't see us drafting a devolpmental guy this year.

WOLB - Carter and Sims are perfect for this spot.

At the top of my head....

OT - My clear number 1 need,Doug Free is awful and likely to be cut, while Parnell is still a big unknown.

S - I have this rated as a higher rated need than Guard due to both our 'current' starting safeties returning from injuries.Matt Johnson also not playing a down in the NFL yet made me put this above Guard.

OG - We know what we have with Burnadeau and Livings, and it's not pretty.

WR -I have receiver being our 4th need due to not trusting our receivers outside of Dez,Miles is the most untrustworthy not only due to being injury prone but from what appeared to be a lack of effort also,Harris looked nice from the time I've seen him but I still feel he'd be best in the slot/as a #3.Everybody else are unknowns.

DE
DT
C
RB

SOLB
MLB
WLB
QB
TE
CB

I didn't say that was the order I would draft them in, but perhaps I'll elaborate

SAM - We have nobody to start there. Wilber is a fourth from last year who looked lost everytime he was on the field. Simms is a WILL who would get destroyed at SAM. This position is vacant of a starter and therefore our highest need.

Safety - Barry Church is coming off of a ruptured achilles, an injury that can significantly impact someones speed and their ability to run - we have yet to see him come back and have no clue where he's at. Matt Johnson makes Miles Austin look like the epitome of health - he's a walking IR spot. That means we have two injured starters, one who is a mid-late round pick with no experience.

Guard and Tackle are self explanatory - we have below average to terrible starters and have some depth to compete that we've been grooming for a few years.

1-Tech is something we don't really have, outside of Brian Price. Most of our current DT's are better fits at 3-Tech (Hatcher, Lissemore, Ratliff)

So - please explain what is so horrible about my list.

What do you guys think about playing Spencer at SAM for first and second down, and then moving him to DE in our nickel package? Crawford could play LDE on running downs.

If we keep Spencer - which it seems inevitable at this point - then I love that idea. Thats exactly how I would use him. Thats why I have DE listed fairly high.

Of all the unknowns on our roster, it seems to me like RT has the most viable in-house solution with Jeremy Parnell. It surprises me to see OT so high on the list for some people.

I'd probably rank it:

1) OG/C - Definitely need one, but would be very happy to land two interior linemen.

2) DT - Age, depth, and importance of the position for our team is why I'd rank it second. Though I don't know if we need to force it in the draft. We could probably get by with Lissemore backing up Hatcher and Ratliff for 2013 if need be.

3) S - Even if both Barry Church and Matt Johnson develop into dependable, quality starters (big if), we need more players there.

The good thing is, I think there is some depth at all 3 positions in the draft. If we take the best guy on the board out of these positions with our first 3 picks, I think there's a pretty good chance we end up with 3 immediate (or early) starters.
