FREE AGENCY

NOTE: The Miami Dolphins have $16,490,600 in remaining cap space

1. Elvis Dumerville: 11 sacks and 6 forced fumbles in 2012 To add a little clarity, his numbers mirrored Demarcus Ware (Dumerville was a half a sack behind and 1 forced fumble ahead.)

4 years $45m. - 17m Guaranteed

2013 - $8m

2014 - $9m

2015 - $12m

2016 - $16m

2. Eric Winston: Average in pass protection and above average in run blocking. I'll take it for now. Can't address everything in one offseason. He might get beat out in camp. But he fits and worse case scenario, he adds depth.

3 years $16 - $9m Guaranteed

2013 - $5.3m

2014 - $5.3m

2015 - $5.3m

(My train of thought so far: The only FA available that's even worth a look is Vollmer and I don't think we will be able to sign him for $7m or less. That's the number I'm not willing to exceed after Dumerville left us with only $8.49m to spend in 2013. Chris Gamble retired and The Dolphins let all the other CBs that where worth a look sign elsewhere.

Also, I've always been bothered Richie Incognito. Always thought he was dirty. The way he treated Egnew on Hard Knocks last year didn't sit well with me, even if Egnew is a female dog. Now his resign Jake Long twitter antics, while they didn't bother me, may have been an issue with the coaching staff and front office, especially one that wants to see Jonathan Martin gain confidence. We all know they have low tolerance for anything that is even remotely unprofessional. I know he's our only other true veteran presence on the offensive line but if anyone we draft shows promise, or another team cuts a solid veteran, don't be surprised to see
him get shown the door. Especially since it would add about 4m to the cap)

Drafted Players:

Trade Details: 1st Round 12th overall pick is worth 1200 points. The Rams who have the 16th which is valued at 1000 points trade their 1st and 3rd (valued at 190 points) for a total of 1190 to move up and take possibly a Coradell Patterson.

1st - 16th - Jonathan Cooper LG - North Carolina.

2nd 42nd - Kyle Long - LT Oregon

2nd 54th (from Indianapolis) - Jamar Taylor - CB Boise State

3rd 77th - Ryan Swope - WR - Texas A&M

3rd - 80th - (from trade w/ Rams) - Alex Okafor - DE Texas

3rd 82nd (from Chicago) - Barrett Jones - G/C/OT Alabama

4th 110th - Knile Davis - Arkansas

5th 146th - Robert Alford - CB - SE Louisiana

5th 166th (compensatory) - Josh Boyce - WR TCU

7th 217th - Jeff Nady - OT Nevada

Draft...fantastic...

Locking down Cooper, Long and Jones would be amazing....both Long and Jones are versatile enough to play T or G (Jones can also play center...)

Add in Taylor and Swope....just a really good first 6 picks...

I like Winston and Dumervil as veteran additions...Winston can hold down the RT position until one of the young guys develops enough to star and Dumervil will provide a scary pass rush (Wake and Dumervil off the edge with Starks and Odrick pushing up the middle and an occasional blitz from Ellerby and Wheeler...scary....for Brady Twisted Evil )

Really good off-season....

Looks to me as if you've given up on Jonathan Martin. Wink

He'll be a OG within two years. Book it.

Am I the only one that cringes at giving Dumervil that much? He's a great pass-rusher, no doubt, but he is not good against the run. Wasn't he on the left side in Denver, as well? I wonder if he would lose any effectiveness by moving to the right side.

As for the draft, I like it. I am really on board with Cooper. Fits the ZBS really well. I'm only so-so on Long, but we need to take another OT somewhere. Taylor is a guy I really want the Fins to target at CB (along with Jordan Poyer), as he seems like a perfect fit for the scheme as well. Just "meh" on Swope due to the concussions, but otherwise I like him. Would rather see a TE prospect taken here (Escobar if he's there, although he likely won't be). Love the Okafor, Jones and Davis picks. Don't like the Alford pick, as he is more of a man coverage player, and I'm not sure he'd last until the 5th anyway. The rest of the picks are fine, although I'd like to see a kicker drafted to provide camp competition for Carpenter.

Draft is great other than I think we should add a kicker in one of the later rounds as Carpenter is expensive and was pretty inconsistent last year. I think the Florida kicker (is it Caleb Sturgess?) would be a good pick up with our R5 compensatory pick.

FA - love the Winston signing; HATE the Dumervill signing. The guy can't defend the run and is really a situational pass rusher. And the contract you've given him is more than Wake earns - nothing more likely to upset a locker room than to bring in a guy and pay him more than your best player who just happens to play the same position.

Way too much money for Dumervil. He is a pass rush specialist in a 4-3 defense. He is one dimensional, unlike Ware, who can do everything. I would rather sign Osi to a much smaller 3 year deal. I'm of the opinion right now, that I would almost rather see us either trade down and select one of either Austin or Eifert or select Ezekial Ansah at 12 if he is available.

Jones is a power run blocker who I like but don't think fits our system at all.

Love the draft except for Okafor, but I don't think Jones, Alford will still be on the board where you have them selected. I don't think we double dip at wide receiver. Dummervile , I just have the feeling he ends up back at denver or possibly with the Ravens. Winston I'm all for and if we want him Ireland better act soon before other teams start in.

Robert Alford is a 2nd rounder, not 5th. Just sayin.

I have zero interest in giving Dumervil that much money to play in a 4-3.

Not really. We have been linked to Osi, though, and he's a much better fit IMO.

Osi is a "price is right" kinda guy. While I do like him to bolster our pass rush, i wouldnt want to pay top dollar. Any idea what kinda contract hes lookin for?
