Jeff Fisher is claiming this is a step to make the game completely safe.
No, what makes the game safe is taking away tackling. This is the biggest joke rule I'v ever seen. _________________

It only applies to outside of the tackle box, or am I imagining that part?
I think they need to explain closer what they're implying. Your head is going to lower if you lower your shoulder. There's not really a way around that.
If what they mean is you can't lower your head entirely so that the tip of your helmet is smashing into a defender, then it may not be so bad...but still, how the hell can these players learn not to do these things? _________________

What a joke.
Faulk said it best, if you want people to stop using their helmet as a weapon, then remove the helmets.
It remains to be seen how the refs will actually enforce this rule, but I'm not looking forward to seeing flags on every Vikings drive next season. _________________

Hmm, this will be interesting.
From the emphasis on "crown" of helmets, it sounds like it'll still be easy enough for RBs to lower their shoulder as long as they keep their faces up. But we'll have to see how enforcement works in practice. |

They've seriously just effectively neutered the reigning MVP. What's the point in even having these big bodied running backs who truck through the line to get short yardage anymore?
Short yardage running suffers, power running is effectively neutered, many, many players are rendered FAR less effective.
Why? So the NFL doesn't get sued. _________________

Good rule.
Not surprised it passed by an enormous margin. |

So under the new rules, would Ridley have been flagged for the play in the AFC chamionship where Pollard knocked him out and he fumbled the ball? |

Exactly. This type of play is now illegal:

But you can still run over defenders as long as you aren't using the crown of your helmet to deliver forcible blows. _________________

How can you score in goal line situations with this rule? What about guys trying to power their way into the end zone from the outside?
Ridiculous rule. Just remove the pads and add flag already. _________________ Come Follow The Great NSFL!

Guys, you can still lower your head, you just can't deliver a blow with the top of the helmet.
This rule is fair and is a step in the right direction. _________________
