I highly doubt any deal can get done before the Boldin trade is officially completed. This is a bit of a surprise. The Ravens must be REALLY high on Dumervil if they're willing to actually spend money on a free agent.

Wonder how high Ozzie will be willing to go to pay for this. Dumervil would be a perfect replacement for Kruger, but there's a reason they didn't want to pay Kruger big-money, either. They're both specialists, not every-down guys.

Depending on how much Dumervil's asking for, I can see us walking away.

Maybe he sees this as a way to get a big lt deal next season. He didn't hit fa until after most other edge threats had already been signed. He could come to bmore on a one year deal, recoup the difference between his bmore salary and $8m he would have made in Denver by seeing his agent, beast out in the Kruger role from last season, get a monster deal next offseason in true fa, ravens get a great comp pick.

I love this signing because he's basically the complete a beefed up version of Kruger, for less, which is essentially what Ozzie does for a living.

Not to mention Dumervil is a more natural 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 DE anyways.

Please oh please make this happen, and then sign Michael Huff and draft a safety!

Best part is because he was released I believe the Ravens would still get a comp pick for Krugar.

Would be fun to have the tandem of Sizzle and Doom out there in pass situations.

Gotta hope Ozzie and Co. could work out something cap friendly for a few years, and hopefully Boldin can actually have his physical soon.

Gotta figure if they want to make any other potential splashes that Leach would be the next casualty but might not happen until after the draft for him IMO.

Yep, that's a very key point.

Agreed, I would've prefer Harrison, but I suppose the point about the upside of Doom in a 34 defense is a really good one.

I also wonder how Dumervil would see his role on our team. I think we all would mostly prefer to see him as a pass rushing specialist, but if he is only going to come in here on a short deal, would that kind of role best allow him to get the contract he's potentially looking for?

On one hand we can almost guarantee him that in that role, he's going to be a productive pass rusher and should get at the very least a similar contract to Kruger, but at the same time, he could potentially get more if he's on a team that gives him more responsibilities while also racking up the sacks.

That and just the notion of a semi-star player not being recognized as a "starter" in each game could make greater egos highly volatile. Obviously Martindale vouches for him, but that was also years ago that he coached him. If we sign him, I'll just have to hope Dumervil can be a more impactful player in big moments than he's been to this point.

With Avril receiving just $13m over two years and Michael Bennett getting less than $5 million for one season with the Seahawks, how much are we likely looking at to acquire Doom?

I'm thinking, maybe, around a 2yr./$12.5m deal with around $8m-$9m guaranteed, anyone else? Would they have enough cap room left, after giving that type of deal to Doom, to still re-sign Reed?

I honestly have no idea what Doom would be willing to sign for. But I'd have to assume that he's going to want a short deal and make mid-range compensation at worse. So I don't think we can hope for anything better than 1 year $4.5m.. best case scenario. With that, I think we could fit Reed in if we give him a lower cap hit in year one, but it would be pretty tough. It'd essentialy require him to make almost veteran minimum in salary and his money to come from his signing bonus... and then we'd have to make up for that down the line.

That's another reason why I'm a bigger fan of targeting Harrison, I think he'd present us with a cheaper option by at least $1m per or so... at least that's my assumption.

Would love for Dumervil to sign here but I think he'll be back with Denver,

Hopefully Harrison signs here, cheaper and i still think he has plenty in the tank
