It would be a back up plan if Matt wont take a pay cut type of thing.

I still think Fitzpatrick will eventually become the best backup QB in the league. If he hasn't accepted that yet and would come in and cause trouble, then I don't want him. But if he's willing to accept the role and tutor Locker while occasionally filling in while Locker gets healthy again, I'd be all for it.

The tutor part is what worries me about Fitzpatrick. Yes Hasselbeck has never won the big one but has been around long enough to know what it takes to get there and be successful in this league. Hass backed up Favre and worked with Dilfer so Hass has been around winning minds and is having no prob teaching Locker. Id keep Hass for atleast another season

Why are people not okay with this?

Fitzpatrick would be a much, much better backup than Hasselbeck.

My thought is how much more does Hasselback have to share? He's tutored him for two years now, so why not bring in a fresh perspective on things for Jake?

I wouldn't mind Leftwich. Fitz would probably be the best for us though.

If Rusty Smith isn't ready to be our #2 why is he even still on the team? He was brought in to be groomed to become that #2 guy, I thought.

Jake hasn't shown he is durable enough to play a full season and should he sputter big time we need to have a vet waiting in the wings. I'm far from a Fitzpatrick fan but with Hass gone now, I wouldn't hate it. If he comes cheap enough, accepts the back-up role and understands its not a QB competition and plays with a chip on his shoulder when/if he gets a chance to play, sure why the heck not. Part of me thinks he might actually thrive in a run heavy, short passing system.

I did see that he met with the Bengals yesterday as well, chances seem pretty high he heads back there.
