Taking Joekel at 1 overall would have to be one of the more uninspiring uses of a number 1 pick that I can remember in recent history.

My hope would be that the Chiefs could trade out of 1 to 2, 3, or 4 and get back that 2nd rounder, and use the money they save on Albert to add one more piece in FA (Osi, Elvis, or Lloyd). But these are the Chiefs, so I won't be holding my breath.

My hope would be for a million dollars to fall out of the sky into my lap, as long as we're hoping for stuff that's never going to happen.

Alex smith is not a good reason to pass on QB.

Your scenario is an impossibility. Mine isn't.

It's close enough to one to not be worth even mentioning.

Disagree - I could see Buffalo or Philly or Oakland moving up to secure Geno - team's put a ton of value on a Franchise QB, even if he's not a great prospect. This is a terrible top end class and Geno could very well go Top 3 if nobody trades up

Chiefs OT Branden Albert has accepted his franchise tender. Will sign it soon. $9.828 million for this season. Smart move.

So can he still be traded and signed long term? I recall a few examples of it happening in the past, but not sure if my memory is accurate.

This tells me a deal will be done in the next 72 hours. Albert won't be a Chief, IMO.

Thank you. My scenario isn't implausible enough to be compared to that ridiculous what if. It just relies on:

1) The Chiefs being aggressive in the trade market in the draft. Swapping firsts with Buffalo for example and getting their 2nd. Chip Kelly loved Geno coming out of HS for what its worth.

and

2) The market for Albert. He's not elite or anything, but I don't think a mid to late 2nd, or even an early 3rd would be all that steep of a price for a very good pass-blocking, average run-blocking, overall well above average LT.

Mid to late 2nd or early 3rd would be my hope.

Well, that and using the money they'll save to dip their foot in the FA pool one more time.

Why would they do this?

They should have just kept Winston at RT, let Albert go, and drafted Joeckel #1. It seems like they're making their OT situation more difficult than it needed to be.

If the dolphins liked Albert. A trade for their second or third would make sense.
