| Quote: | HIGH Priorities: (Impact/starter)
#1 Wide Receiver
Left Tackle
Edge Threat- Pass rush specialist
Weakside Inside Linebacker- need a quick coverage LBer the most
Free Safety (for now)
Strong Safety
MEDIUM Priorities: (Depth)
Center- Gino Gradkowski will be the starter
Guard- Starters are set, need a swing interior guy
Tight End- Blocking TE
34 Defensive End- Could draft a potential guy like Joe Kruger/Brandon Williams
Right Tackle- Oher can play LT and if he does, we'll need someone to compete with Reid
Strongside Inside Linebacker- both Bynes and McClain can play this role
Corner Back- Can always use quality corners
LOW Priorities: (Unlikely)
Quarterback- Flacco is durable
Running Back- Rice, Pierce, Rainey, Leach
Possession Wide Receiver- have Doss and Reed
34 NT- Ngata, Cody is good... and our depth can rotate to NT as needed. |
That's my list. I made a few notes.
I certainly don't think center nor strong side linebacker is a high priority. We just drafted Gino Gradkowski as the 2nd best center in the 2012 class and he's looked pretty good in the time he's played. We could draft some later round competition for him at center if a quality option falls, but it's definitely not a high priority/need. And we need more of a cover linebacker than run stopper. Both Jameel McClain and Josh Bynes can stop the run at a nice level. What we need is an ILB that has the speed/quickness to cover out of the backfield. We could use an upgrade over McClain, sure, but first and foremost a guy with some coverage ability to him, but that can also play the run... like Khaseem Greene or Gerald Hodges is probably our best fit. _________________

High Priorities:
Left Tackle - I did think Oher could make the transition, but he's definitely better suited to the right side. McKinnie probably won't be back, there are no free agents worth looking at. Need to draft someone who can start right away. If they do that, then this O-line should be scary next season.
ILB - I agree that McClain and Bynes are not going to be much good at covering the TEs that consistently mauled the Ravens last season. They need to draft someone who can.
WR - Physical, safe handed receiver. Jacoby is coming back next year, it seems, so the deep threat is still there. They need someone to go to on short routes apart from Pitta, but who can also stretch it out if he needs to.
Safety - Whether Reed comes back or not, releasing Pollard confirms that this is a big need. There are a lot of names in the draft that would be exciting options.
If Ozzie is smart with his deal making, I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility that the Ravens go out, get four second round picks and draft guys in each of these positions.
Medium Priority:
OLB - If Harrison signs, then I think the Ravens are set for this year, at least. Suggs, Upshaw, Harrison and McClellan is a pretty solid unit. I don't like Harrison, but signing him would be a smart move, allowing the FO to worry about getting an OLB in next year's draft instead.
Center - Backup for Gino, because I think he can start next season.
CB - They need more talent in depth. Williams has gone, Webb is still coming back from his injury. Graham looks much better than we had a right to expect, and Chykie Brown is decent. Jimmy Smith still has the potential to be great, he just needs to stay healthy.
TE - Pitta is the man. Dickson isn't. He can make some impressive plays, but he's been inconsistent and unreliable. Neither of them are great at blocking.
NT - Signing Canty and Spears has answered a lot of questions here, I think. Ngata can play NT, but in a completely different way than Cody.
Low Priority -
Quarterback - I think we gave some guy a decent contract recently, right? Weren't there a couple of articles about this? Anyway, beyond that I wouldn't mind the Ravens getting a developmental pocket passer late in the draft or in UDFA.
Running Back - As set as we can be. Rice and Pierce as a one-two combo, Leach seems to be coming back to open holes for them.
Guard - Wouldn't say no to a good one late in the draft. But I think the starters will definitely be Yanda and Osemele, with Reid and Harewood as backups.
Right Tackle - Oher is going to be on the final year of his rookie deal. If he plays well this year, I say extend it.
DT/DE - I do think Canty and Spears have us set for the year. Art Jones warranted a 2nd round tender, so the Ravens obviously like what he offers them. McPhee had a bit of an injury riddled season, so it's hard to judge where he's at right now. But I don't think this is a need for the time being. _________________
