Does your 8-12 include 4m for draft picks?

No, the rookie pool isn't included. Assuming some of that money will come from cuts, and the top two picks will take up the biggest chunk. They can always drop a couple contracts too, such as Brian Waters'.
and Lloyd. If you look at the list you can see more cap space coming. Ex TEs, Gregory. Don't be shocked if Stephen Gostkowski get cut, and no, I'm not saying we should cut him.

The thing is, the Patriots' rookie pool is going to be relatively tiny this year with only 5 picks at the moment and none of those picks higher than 29th. For comparison, last year's 29th pick, Harrison Smith, had a cap charge of about $1.5 million for 2012. So, I doubt the Pats will need to reserve much space for the rookie pool overall.

Pretty much an ideal situation (though I would have preferred Keenan Lewis). Gives the team a year to find a replacement and hopefully it keeps Talib engaged and working hard all year.

Apparently he really wanted to play for the Saints, and was never really an option for us. He was the #1 corner available and the market bore that out.

Yeah, figured as much. Would have been a much better option than Talib though.

1/5M is fine for Talib but a year from now, I expect to be in the same boat (wanting an alternative).

Definitely best case scenario. He hasn't really proven anything for us with his limited time on the field, so a full off-season and regular season to prove it will be nice.

Well I guess Talib really did wanted to be and stay a Patriot. Cheap deal.

Really wonder how much cap is left now.
This web site seem to be the most current concerning the cap.

Miguel the Patscap.com guru has finally updated his pages and currently has the Patriots $17.8M under NOT counting Adrian Wilson and Kyle Arrington.

When Waters eventually goes on the "did not report" list, do we regain his $2.2 in cap space? Would provide in season cap flexibility. Will also be great if the Pats regain $2.5 million from the Fananne dead money and it gets applied to next years cap.

This is great news, not excellent, but great.

$5m for one season of Talib is good value, but falls short of the 3 + year deal I wanted (perhaps I'm just anxious to fill the huge void we've had at CB since McCourty's Sophomore season)

I think Talib, with this deal, will be motivated and hungry, and that is exactly what we need at CB and his signing will hopefully boost the entire secondary, allowing us to keep DMC at FS and Arrington in the Slot.

Hoping he can prove to be what we want at CB though and he earns a long term deal (with us) next off-season.

Also, I'm glad we haven't really thrown that 4th Round Pick away.

We signed Talib for the same deal as DRC and Leodis McKelvin.
