Hey Fellas,

After Recent Free Agency, I was wondering if you could help me on an updated list of Team Needs, this is what I have so far:

HIGH Priorities: (Possible Reach)
Feature Wide Receiver (Not a slot or Possession guy)
Slot Wide Receiver
Right Tackle
Guard
43 Defensive End
Strong Safety
Cornerback

MEDIUM Priorities: (Wont reach)
Center
Possession Wide Receiver
43 Outside Linebacker
34 Outside Linebacker
Strong Side Inside Linebacker
Free Safety

LOW Priorities: (Draft for depth)
Left Tackle
43 Defensive Tackle
34 Defensive Tackle

...Correct me on any mistakes please

4-3 Defensive Tackle should be in the highest priority range, we desperately need a compliment to Vince. Guard is a medium priority at best. Center is not a need.

would be nice offseason for pats if they actually can acquire:

-at least one vet defensive back preferably at safety (a.wilson)

-welker replacement (d.amandola)

-depth at receiver (d.jones)

-starting caliber corner(s) (q.jammer, n.asomugha, c.woodson, a.talib, xavier rhodes, bw webb, dwayne gratz, blidi wreh-wilson, darius slay?) &/or a free safety/corner flex player to allow d.mccourty to return to corner therefore automatically resolving a perceived problem (eric reid)

-a b.lloyd replacement (e.sanders &/or keenan allen, cordarrelle patterson, josh boyce, robert woods, sted bailey, deandrae hopkins, quintin patton?)

-dynamic edge pass rusher(s) (j.abraham & d.freeney or e.dumervil, i.idonije?)

-draft picks (r.mallett trade?)

-defensive tackle prospect(s) (phil taylor, sylvester williams, datone jones, jesse williams, john jenkins?)

this unit looks good on paper compared to last years unit:

Secondary
RCB: Nnamdi Asomugha &/or Xavier Rhodes, Dwayne Gratz, or Ras-I Dowling/Alfonzo Dennard?
Slot: Kyle Arrington, & Antoine Winfield or EJ Biggers?
FS: Devin McCourty/Steve Gregory/rookie?
SS: Adrian Wilson/Tavon Wilson/Malcolm Williams
LCB: Charles Woodson, &/or Aqib Talib, Quentin Jammer, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, or BW Webb

Defensive Front
ROLB: Dwight Freeney/Jake Bequette/Justin Francis
RE: Armond Armstead/Myron Pryor
WILB: Jerod Mayo/Dane Fletcher
NT: Vince Wilfork/Phil Taylor or Sylvester Williams
SILB: Donta Hightower/Brandon Spikes
LE: Kyle Love/Marcus Forston/Brandon Deaderick
LOLB: Chandler Jones/Marcus Benard/Rob Ninkovich

I would feel a billion times better if we found out today that Talib, Freeney, and Volmer had signed. Only a true vertical threat is all I would.really want at that point.

theyre signing vollmer or starting caliber free agent corner and one of freeney or abraham in the coming days as soon as they resolve the debate between b.lloyd restructuring (possibly) or being cut to sign emmanuel sanders, as well as probably securing some type of deal for ryan mallet in the background somewhere, because if they can get a 1st round talented DT like phil taylor in exchange or their 2011 3rd round pick? that resolves a draft need imo. Or, if the pats sign sanders and lose a third, and also do not work out a trade for p.taylor, the pats will have to know what they can get for mallett in terms of draft picks because that's a huge factor in all of this money throwing around and draft pick swapping that will potentially be commencing shortly Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

We should look at Grimes if the money is right. Otherwise I say we pray, pray, pray that Desmond Trufant falls to us. That dude is legit and will be the best CB out of this draft.

Probably the best athlete at the position, anyway.

even that is highly debatable. im not convinced by trufant in anyway, seems like a bonafide backup in the nfl, never worth the investment as a starter at corner imo

He had one of the best combines for a DB, he had an amazing Senior Bowl week, and has two brothers in the NFL. All the reports I've read on him say that UW left him on an island and he did fantastic. I've watched 4 games of him on youtube and was impressed, he plays the ball in the air and almost always has tight coverage. He could be Talib's replacement next year.

1. the combine is a test of vitals, not football players

2. senior bowl is merely one week of practice, you are going to invest so much more than you otherwise would based on one week of practice in a different environment? im not, no thanks, that's way too much weight given to a pre-draft scouting event that doesn't even correlate to elite or even average nfl production.

3. his ancestry means little to nothing. desmond trufant is his own person and will prove his worth based on his play, not the reputation of the relatives before him. the "NFL ties" players sometimes have leading up to the draft are storyline's; next to nothing else

4. all colleges with really athletic and semi competent football players, if they have one on a given year, will leave that guy on an island. i dont see any of these island cornerbacks in college retaining close to the same role at any points in their nfl career nor finding the success rate the statistics may have shown in collegiate games against 18-22 year olds; in essence kids, (i.e. unprofessional athletes).

5. youtube scouting ... enough said

You've basically discredited every metric I could use other than sitting in the stands with a clipboard taking notes on the guy. What's wrong with watching his games on youtube? There is a ton of video on the guy, about 10 whole games worth of every play he's involved in.

thats subjective then, and i disagree with your personal assessments of desmond trufant. he doesn't do it for me on tape the way he does for you. there isn't necessarily going to be a single "good player" taken at any given position in the draft process. a lot these situations don't work out for people involved in management, coaching, advertisement, and playing. the nfl draft is a crapshoot, nothing is guaranteed. not even a single good player in a draft even! Laughing in other words, there doesn't have to be a good corner to come out of the draft this year... kind of getting a little too deep now but the point remains the same

also, you could use whatever your imagination creates. think harder... Wink

i should not have said "never". i mean to say i really dont think trufant is a first round grade prospect and at the earliest should be taken sometime in the early-mid second round, however that said, he's most likely going to be picked in the first somewhere before the patriots at 29 and i dont think he'll pan out with that team as a full time starting corner
