The Atlanta Falcons made the contract of tight end Tony Gonzalez as salary-cap friendly as possible with a little creative accounting.

Although Gonzalez will make $7 million this season, his salary-cap figure will be only $5.25 million. That’s because the Falcons structured the deal with what is known as “OATSB’’ (other amount treated as signing bonus).

Gonzalez will receive $3.5 million in base salary and another $3.5 million that will treated as OATSB. That portion becomes prorated with $1.75 million counting toward this year’s cap and another $1.75 million counting toward the 2014 cap.

Genius. There's definitely room to add Grimes and/or get a DL.

TD wants Grimes back--an offer is on the table but Grimes wants to test the market. I'm sure the Falcons will bring in someone on the defensive line. There's lots of guys available and the market isn't great.

I thought the same thing. Possibly referring to the other thread you posted (Brent Grimes). I thought it was known by all on FF that you post what you find from mostly reliable sources. If it turns out to be wrong, the source was wrong..

The Brent Grimes thing was re-tweeted by every single main reporter... that D. Orlando Ledbetter guy is an idiot.

I changed the title of that thread to false report anyway.

its not inaccurate, its an accounting formality.

Technically its a 2 yr/14 million dollar deal, but in reality its only a one year deal

Not to mention that Howard Blazer who reported it [the source of the thread] wrote it's a 1-year deal
