Assuming the Broncos don't trade down from #28 (I think they will), I'd go with one of the DEs:
- Damontre Moore (Texas A&M) 6'5" 250lb
He has experience as a 4-3 DE. Good size and quickness.
- Datone Jones (UCLA) 6'4" 280lb
Kind of a tweener. Stronger but slower than Moore.
- Alex Okafor (Texas) 6'5" 265lb
Good player, not a speed-rusher
- Sam Montgomery (LSU) 6'3" 260lb
Good measurables.
- Ezekiel Ansah (BYU) 6'5" 270lb
Freakish athleticism. Raw skills.

These 5 DEs sould be available in the late first round.

Ansah and Jones, especially Ansah will absolutely not be available when we pick. Damontre Moore is questionable too. Montgomery will slip because of his comments about his own work ethic.

One guy who could fall though is Bjoern Warner

What's the negative talk about Bjoern Warner? I thought he'd be a top-12 pick. Dion Jordan is another DE that looks like he'll be picked in the top half of the 1st round.

I suggested taking a DE at #28 because a rookie could start in that position quite quickly. At other positions, a rookie might ride the bench longer.

I want the BPA at our pick, I think thats going to be a safety or pass rusher that falls. Rb is a team need, but it might be one of the easiest positions to fill for a rookie to come in and start from day 1. We can get someone later in the draft to fill this hole. Look at Alfred Morris last year, rookie came in and ran for 1500 yards. Lets get the best guy available and I think its going to be a safety.

It'll be interesting to see how far Elway takes this '2-year window'. Will he consider moving future picks to move up in the first round? Grabbing a guy like Vaccaro, Ogletree, or Sylvester Williams if he sees them slipping into a good value range, trying to get a game breaker right away, while perhaps giving up future assets in the process. He might have that 'all-in' move in the holster come draft day.

I better take a screen shot of this page. No one will believe me if I said I spotted 101 without proof. It's like a Sasquatch sighting...which I'm guessing 101 has seen up in Canada.

On the thread, I'm thinking Elway will trade down, unless someone falls, but I'm a big Vaccaro fan and would love to see a trade up to get him, especially with Carter's recent casino ordeal

No running backs in the 1st. You spent a 3rd round pick on a back last year. Beanie Wells on a cheap contract or Ahmad Bradshaw. BPA is what I hope Elway will do. This team filled needs/holes and you NEVER draft for need in the first, BPA only.

At the same time though, need has to have SOMETHING to do with it. If Geno Smith fell to us, there's no way we'd pick him even though he'd easily be BPA. The only position I feel like you guy BPA no matter what you have on your roster is pass rusher/d-lineman. Those guys you can plug in a few different ways.

I still say we trade down for a second and a 3rd or fourth the draft is deep for us to stay at 28. Unless someone falls. If we stay there I wonder if Alec ogletree is the selection has some character concerns though. Or a guy like short or trufant. I like Short he can stop the run and pressure the passer, and was double teamed in college. Anytime you take a guy at 28 that might command double teams I a fun. We have the run stuffers I think another pass rusher DT to rotate and pair with Wolfe would be ideal.

I would like to know why Damontre Moore has fallen on so many rankings lately? I know he had a bad combine, but his tape is good. His explosion and motor are obvious. I noticed he can get upfield to fast and take himself out of the play. He also can be negated in the run game.

His upside is tremendous. I would trade up if he drops into the 20's. If not Okafor is a good player too. The upside isn't there, but the technique and ability shows. The oen problem with Okafor is I haven't seen much of him from the right side. All his tape shows him almost exclusively playing on the left.

Depending on who else we may or may not sign, I seriously think we could go with a CB if we stay at 28.

They have been talking about taking a cb to groom for the future replacement for Champ. I would serioiusly consider Desmond Trufant or Xavier Rhodes. Champ can't play forever, and though we all love him, he will be 35 this year and asking him to blanket the elite young wideouts game in and game out is tough.

Elway is on record as saying you can never have enough good corners. I would not be overly disappointed if we got one of those 2 guys.

I would also consider a DE or a safety at 28, but NOT a running back.

From what I have read/heard/seen, Werner is not as versatile and not the physical freak others are. He is a traditional 4-3 DE. Based on these two factors, he does not warrent a top 10 pick. Further, 3-4 teams would not want him so that lowers his stock a bit as some teams running that scheme or hybrid versions of it won't look at him high in the 1st round; see Chargers, Saints, Steelers, Colts, Packers- three of them in the top 20. So Werner could actually fall into the early 20s, although 28 would be a bit of a stretch.
