Amendola was a favorite of mine. One of those guys that you love to root for. If he stays healthy the pats will be very happy. Would've rather gave this to Amendola than sign Cook...

Not bad at all but still not the right move. Was $2 million in guaranteed money and a theoretical 5th year really worth the risk? I don't think so. Especially given that a lot of Welker's success was running routes than most WR won't (getting drilled over the middle) and being so in sync with Brady. I won't slam the move but I get the vibe that this was more a "look how smart we are, OMG Patriots way" move than the best football decision, especially given Brady's solid contract and that few other players on that roster will command huge, cap destroying money (at least prior to the new TV contract).

Amendola is not exactly a Welker clone, so it's quite possible that the Pats are going to transition away from using a WR there and more towards using a TE in the middle (they have GRONK, Hernandez, Ballard, and Hooman, all of whom can catch the ball).

I don't get how Amendola gets more money than Welker. There must have been some underlying issues between Welker and the Patriots, because why would the Patriots be willing to pay a receiver like Amendola more money than Welker? Amendola is good, but he's not as good as Welker and he's very injury prone.

Why didn't the Rams resign him? They already had a bad WR core with him so it's really bad without him. Is it simply because he wanted too much money? It's not that much money for how good he's capable of being, but like I said, he has trouble staying on the field.

The Rams were looking for more size and speed. They opted to sign Cook to take over the slot role.

Injuries also played a great deal into it. From all accounts, Rams don't believe he can stay healthy.

Don't worry. Sean Payton would pass the ball in a Tornado.

But would he do it in a Sharknado?

Bill Belichick is playing chess and we are all playing checkers.

I expect little to no drop off in production.

Bravo.

Interesting news: Amendola signed with the Patriots on Tuesday. NE did not react to Denver, they made choice when Welker went to market

With Amendola ready to sign and Welker seeking 8 to 9 million and making visits, Pats moved on Amendola rather than drag feet and lose out.

So Welker actually reacted to the Patriots rather than vice versa

Danny Amendola's five-year #Patriots contract is worth $27.7 million not the originally reported, agent-inflated, $31 million.
