Wanting Tavon Austin to be a Panther makes no sense to me.

I agree. I think we are transitioning to larger receivers. It may because of the tendency for Cams passes to sail high from time to time.

I would love to get Austin, just not at the spot he is going to go. Way to steep a price to pay for me.

1) DJ Fluker from 'bama will be a stud RT for years to come, probably good value in the early 20's
2) Menelik Watson from FSU has the skill set to play LT, Panthers are in about the right position in the 2nd to draft him. Could be a RT that could transition to LT when Gross retires.
3) Justin Pugh from Syracuse also has the ability to play LT but is has short arms (31"). Scouts still think he'll be a solid LT in the NFL.

Question...

Would you trade this year's first round pick for Victor Cruz? (Hypothetically thinking the Panthers could sign him long term?)

Nope. I think he's pretty well overrated. Drops way too many easy passes. If we were the Vikings (2 picks in the 20's), I might give up one of them for him. I don't think he'll ever be a "true" #1 receiver though.

You don't think Cruz is better than any receiver in this draft? Receivers take years to develop. If the Panthers are considering drafting a WR in round one, what is the difference. Two seasons ago Cruz was a top 5 WR in the league and last year he was excellent. Would you rather have Mike Wallace or Cruz? Cruz and Smith playing together would be nasty. Also, Cruz resembles S. Smith more so than any WR in the league... Just playing devil's advocate...

Long-term I like Hopkins, Patterson, and Bailey a good bit better than him. Obviously for a few years he'd be better though. And I don't see much of a Smith comparison.

The more I read about this kid I wish we would take him in the draft. As long as the top 3 OT are gone of course.

Do you guys think Lane Johnson is just a riser due to the lack of OT declaring or is he fully worth #14 and a future LT?

He's my favorite pass rusher in the draft. I don't think thats the direction we should go, but I'd be less upset with picking him (especially since if we don't take him, the Saints probably would).

Meeting with Hopkins again. Beginning to think he's an option at 14.
