Dorsey is the kind of guy we can develop and get to play to his potential. And if not, no big deal. His contract is "up to" 7 million but its probably realistically a 2 year, 4-5 million dollar deal.

Well, we love picking up former top 10-12 picks that were seen as disappointments.

Whitner
Rogers
Ginn

Include Dorsey to the list and in a way Alex Smith as it looked like he was going to leave before Harbaugh came along.

Definitely excited to see how he pans out for us.

Gotta love the attitude as well.

I never understood players who went good money over good team (eg Kruger signing with the Browns and not the Colts!?!? Goodbye career)

I don't know how well he'll fit with the defense, but he seems to fit really well with the team. I don't care much for prototypical sizes and skillset. I believe you take the players you have and use their strengths at your advantage. We often think we need a large run-plugger in the middle (there's still no guarantee we want him to play the nose anyway). But Dorsey has been very good against the run, and having three good-to-great players on the line is a good thing. And he certainly has more pass rush potential than RJF and Sopoaga.

with how often we run the 4-2-5 look he will be valuable with his smarts and run stopping ability inside

Kruger is fairly young and just won a Super Bowl. You only get one career in the NFL, and have to make as much money as possible. Only players that take discounts to win are older vets.

It's possible he could give Ray some competition for that other inside spot alongside of Justin in our 4-2-5.

Have them both rotate throughout the first three quarters and let the one who's having the better game close out the fourth quarter. I don't think Dorsey is as explosive as RayMac, but anything that keeps our players fresher is great.

I think he can provide the same kind of versatility that RJF could - and hopefully be even better. I hope Ian is at the point where he can take a few snaps at NT and let Dorsey give Justing or Ray a rest every now and then. As much as Justin seems like superman, he's at the point where he could afford to play a few less snaps to save himself some for the playoffs.

PFF has had Dorsey rated very well in the run game but not so much in the pass rush. Well, hopefully our defense becomes elite at stopping the run once again!

It's hard to follow up that 2011 season and not disappoint... but yeah. 4th ranked run D, fourth ranked pass D.

He could have gotten good money from more competitive teams though. Either way, a huge contract is still big bucks, and I'd rather shave a couple of dollars off if it meant playing with Andrew Luck instead of Weeden!
