For those criticizing this pick and thinking we needed a "speed guy" it's probably worth noting ...

2012: Harvin averaged 10.9 per catch; Boldin 14.2

2011: Harvin averaged 11.1 per catch; Boldin 15.6

Boldin had Flacco throwing to him and Harvin had Ponder.

I am not against the pickup. I just think a younger/faster WR would add another dimension the offense currently does not have on the outside.

Wouldn't you agree that redzone was a real problem for us? Well Boldin is simply one of the best redzone targets in the league.

Harvin and Ponder was a pretty good QB to WR connection last season before Harvin got hurt.

Also Boldin was with Torrey Smith, and two pretty good TEs along with Ray Rice and still accomplished that. Harvin was the only real receiving threat in MN.

I think the improved play of AJ (hopefully) and mixing in LaMike in the passing game will more than compensate for the lack of speed.

I agree the team struggles in the redzone.

Brian Billick on NFLN was just saying that he feels Boldin will be utilized as more of a replacement for Delanie Walker. Cool! Smile

Oh yeah, lots of ways for us to use a guy like him.

Let's see defenses trying to cover Jenkins on a fly route, Vernon on a very deep cross, Crabs on an intermediate out or hook, Boldin coming out of th normal TE position, oh and maybe James swinging out of the backfield.

I think now with Boldin, Crabtree, and Davis, plus Manningham coming back, Gore still doing well, Jenkins hopefully breaking out this year, and James having a bright start last year, i think were set with receivers and runners. Now we should trade Rogers and.Goldson and bring in Woodson and Revis and well be unstoppable.

uh, Goldson is a FA about to sign elsewhere. He can't be traded. Rogers will count 6m+ against our cap this year no matter what. He is staying.

Still a bit surprised that Billick hasn't gotten another gig yet, he was one of my favorites when he coached.

Good money, no stress. Same reason Gruden hasn't gone back to coaching yet. Or Cowher.

Cool. I also like Billick and am surprised that many fans don't seem to respect him as much as I think they should.

... and I agree with rudyZ. Billick is up in age and probably is better off avoiding the intense stress that coaching can create.
