John Mara says Victor Cruz will be tendered today at the first-round level.

The tender is worth $2.879 million.

The Giants also placed a 2nd round pick tender on Safety Stevie Brown who had 8 INTs in 2012 and RB Andre Brown who had 8 TDs in 2012.

Cruz played well above exceptions for an undrafted free-agent, the past two seasons Cruz recorded 168 catches for 2,628 yards and 19 TDs.

The Vikings might spend one of their two first round picks in the 2013 draft on Cruz.

***Update***
Quote:
Several sources believed the Patriots would make a run at Cruz, but that was prior to Cruz changing agents recently and going with Tom Condon, who the Pats generally don't do business with. While in the past, in general, restricted free agent activity has been limited, some teams are aggressive and looking to make moves to add to the offense, and there are no shortage of teams with abundant cap space.

He'll be gone by the end of the week.

Let me give you my personal opinion, on what I think has happened.
It all started with the release of the coke machine in Brandon Jacobs.

So how does it work exactly? Say someone offers cruz a 3 year 26 mill deal and we dont want to match it. Can cruz reject it if he thinks hes worth more?

Cruz has to SIGN any deal

If he does not like what is being offered then he will not sign

I would imagine it would have to be a much bigger deal than what the Giants are offering to move away from his family

He won't sign the $2.879M tender then either.

Giants have a deal on the table for him, his agent wants to test the market to see if there is a much bigger offer for him

He will sign the tender. If he doesn't sign by June 17th the Giants can lower it by as much as 110%, which would drop his contract to under a million. He will sign it as insurance.

Or............. he will do what a million other players in his position did in the past and hold out.

then he will be fined a lot, and if he holds out long enough he wont be eligible for unrestricted FA next year. also won't happen. he won't run the risk of no pay day next year too. Mara said they gave him a big offer which "would of made him a wealthy young man" Victor's agent is literally an idiot.

interesting. so, exactly where is leverage for him holding out? i mean, if you are openly saying that if someone else wants to pony up a first round pick and a big paycheck that the team can do without him, then how exactly are they worried about him holding out?

If you don't think he's holding if he doesn't get something close to his demands you're crazy. [no offense], but really, no way he doesn't.

19 TDs the past two seasons, he knows he's worth a lot.
