Mike Nugent will remain the Bengalsí kicker.

Nugent, who was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, has re-signed with Cincinnati, according to the teamís website.

Quite surprising because the Bengals were expected to re-sign Kicker Josh Brown instead of Nugent.

Brown replaced Nugent mid-season with success after Nugent went down with a season ending injury.

Yeah, me too. Maybe they sign Brown too, and let them slug it out in camp.

They probably made similar offers to Brown and Nugent with the first to accept getting the spot. Remember when they did that with Caleb Miller and Landon Johnson?

They could have. I don't doubt it was a driving factor in getting the deal done.

Over the past 3 years:

Nugent: 67/80 - 84%
Brown: 65/79 - 82%

So i'm ok with them just going with the first guy that blinks. So long as Nugent actually stays healthy this year.

Nugent is younger, and more importantly to Mike Brown, a local guy.

Most importantly, I can keep saying I played football with two current NFL players.

I can say that too. It's a total lie, but I can say it.

I can say it truthfully though. My senior year AJ Hawk was a freshman (he started at MLB on the varsity team as a 14 year old) and Nugent was a sophmore kicker (he started QB his senior year as well). I was the 6'2" 205 lb franchise left tackle that year.

It was fun, we made the playoffs that year too. Scored just over 50 points a game. Crank up some "Glory Days"!
