I am intrigued by Chris Gamble. I wonder if he is healthy from gis shoulder surgery. Not sure how much he would cost.

I am as well! Fills a need and he's from the area as well! I played against him in high school.

He's on my list for a few reasons:

1) He is familiar with Kevin Coyle's defensive scheme having played in it in Cincy.

2) He won't be anywhere near as expensive as Sean Smith.

3) Pacman's season last year almost landed him in the ProBowl. He was edged out, but he has quielty played very well.

4) He also is a good KR man.

I'm not saying he is a world beater, but he would fill in for a year or two while we find a longer term solution for the job. Quite honestly, all the CB's I posted as options I'd like us to look at are merely stop gap players. If we wanted to solidify a corner spot for a longer term, to me the best option was to resign Sean Smith. Since that is unlikely, then I think we'll need one or two stop gap players to compete for a starting roll until we find a longer term answer.

Free Agents are the proverbial crap shoot. You can think you have struck gold(Mario Williams) when in fact the dollars paid out do not give your team the difference maker you had projected.

There are just so many factors that have to click. There are no sure fires, the landscape of the NFL is littered with what appeared to be an excellent signing that have gone very bad for the new team.

The more successful teams build through the draft and unsigned/undrafted college free agents. Free agents can and do fill needs for teams but be prepared for more failures than success in signings

Pacman Jones is interesting. He already knows the system and come cheap as already stated.

Main guy I go after is Mike Wallace.

It may not be as unlikely as you think. So many CBs have come onto the market in the last couple of days. There's going to be a lot of competition for a few spots.

It looks like corner back and safety are going to be key in free agency and draft.

Chris Houston
Mike Wallace
Eric Winston

I think Cook is going to be expensive (more than Hartline) Keller seems more reasonable.....

Here is who I would like to see in order.

Mike Wallace - Cant have Marshall Ill take Wallace.

Greg Jennings- If Wallace is over priced Ill take Jennings for a year or two until we can bring in some rookies to coach up.

Cliff Avril - Young but cant bring him and Wallace in so if we slip on Wallace sure..

Dominique Rodgers Cromartie - Need to replace Sean Smith, I think he can buy us some time.

Bret Grimes- Can probably sign cheap, allow us to draft a CB later in the draft a groom him, Cromartie and Grimes togther would be ok, but dont think we have the money for several FA's I really see us signing 1-2.

IMO we need to use FA to fill roster holes so the draft can be about building a foundation for the future. The reason we are in the shape we are in is due to the annual trying to find a QB and other key positions in the draft versus getting the BPA. If we can land Wallace at WR, help on the oline, a strong corner, and possibly an edge rusher to go with Wake our draft can be very helpful. We have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, and with those picks we can get help at corner, d-line, o-line, a young WR to go with Wallace and Hartline, and a stretch the field TE. We can also trade down and get the same quality pick 5-8 spots later and pick up more picks this year or next.
