#Panthers now about $3.7 million under cap. |

This was a given. Now it's time to look to free agency or our 1st/2nd round pick for a S/CB, there is no way we could go into the season having Norman/Cap/Thomas as our starters back there. _________________

Gantt said it best:

I don't know that there's been a player who spent more time in Carolina and left less of a footprint than Chris Gamble. Underrated, quiet.
Darin Gantt @daringantt
There were players who were much less successful on the field, but far more popular, because they allowed themselves to be known. Not him. |
Part of his quietness was his play. Sometimes you didn't even see him because nobody threw at him.
But at the same time he was the longest tenured player on defense and he was never close to being considered a leader of the defense. He's practically a mute. |

So you are saying you would rather have a loud mouth that is disruptive to the team? I'd take the quite Gamble that got the job done if you ask me. _________________

| This puts CB at the top of the Panthers needs in FA and the draft. CB must be addressed even though they played very well without Gamble in the lineup. One could argue that once the Panthers moved Kuechly inside the entire defense got better. I hope Xavier Rhodes makes it to the Panthers pick... Would probably be BPA and would fill a need. |

Big fan of Gamble and he was definitely one of the best CBs in the game. How much do you guys think he will demand on the open market? Would love him in SF, even with some injury concerns. _________________

He would be a perfect fit.
I hope he goes there, gets a taste of the playoffs again, and can be surrounded by some talent on the defensive side of the ball. He could have a Carlos Rogers esque rejuvenation. _________________

Yep, and we have great coaching at the DB position as well. It's not like he has been inconsistent or bad, only knock on him is he's been injured two of the last three seasons. Will he want to win at this stage of his career, or try to get as much money as he can? _________________

Didn't Amerson get burned a lot last season? I dunno, but it seemed like every time I watched NC State he was getting beat over the top. |

He might settle for less if he goes to a contender, will probably want 6-8M a year over 3-4 years. _________________

So basically the contract Rogers has right now? The only bad part about having a stacked defense is you won't be able to keep everyone. It looks like Goldson is gone, but will the team want to give Gamble 7 million a year? If we sign Gamble, it would probably mean Rogers will be cut. _________________

Cordarrelle Patterson destroyed him in the Tennessee game, other than that he wasn't bad, but didn't take the next step.
He'll end up at FS in the NFL though, I like him, but our 2nd is probably a little high for him right now. _________________
