Chiefs fan here...
With the Chiefs surprising the fanbase by releasing our veteran starting right tackle Eric Winston, I started thinking of potential free agent options as opposed to automatically assuming that Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher would be the first pick in the draft based on a roster move in March.

I started thinking about King Dunlap because of the obvious connection to Andy Reid. Can you give me your honest, and realistic impression of Dunlap? I am not anticipating he magically develop into a franchise left tackle by any means, I am interested in him in the role as competition at right tackle with Donald Stephenson (second year player drafted in round 3 last year out of Oklahoma) with the "loser" filling a swing-tackle role.

I also understand that Dunlap has played guard for the Eagles. Ultimately, I am wondering what you guys think about Dunlap in the type of role noted above without expectations that he would suddenly be a world-beater by any means.

Thoughts?

Too tall for his own good really. He looks really clunky trying to move around.

I think he's a good spot starter. But you don't really want him starting more than 2 or 3 games in a season.

Joeckel or Fisher would be your best bet and then maybe you guys can sign him for depth.

Honest opinion on Dunlap.

If you sign him to start you have mental issues that need to be worked out. He is a decent swing back up tackle. Don't look at him as a replacement unless you want Alex Smith to get his back replaced.

Okay pass blocker, offers little as run blocker and he should only be a spot starter/depth.

When did he start/play at G for us?

He's not good. Former 7th founder if I'm not mistaken. Can spot start in emergency cases only. Pretty much a waste of a roster spot unless you are very desperate. If there is a competition and King wins, the other dude should not be allowed in the league.

Good luck. I'm sort of rooting for the Chiefs.

Being a "swing tackle" is the highest level his career will ever amount to, and even that could be a stretch TBH. Keep your expectations low.

That zone is up in the skies that's how tall he is.

Having a thread devoted to King Dunlap has greatly decreased the quality of this forum. Thanks Nicfre.
