Albert will play where they tell him to play and he better like it
Or what? They withdraw his tender and let him get paid? Ooooooh! Scary!

That's what Reid has done in the past when players didn't sign their franchise tender.

Or he sits the bench
Reid has never done that with a franchise holdout. he;s just withdrawn the tag and let them walk. Why would he change his modus operandi now?

I don't think you can withdraw the tag anymore.

Had to clear more money to sign Albert long-term somehow. The money they wanted to spend is now tied up in Bowe.

So now either they are forced into a tackle at #1, or they take someone else and have the right side of their line take a hit, particularly in the run game, which will hurt JC and transversely, Alex Smith who relies on having a strong run game.

Have you ever seen Charles run behind Barry Richardson, who was considered one of the worst RT?

When I say "BRING BACK!" you say "WINSTON!"

BRING BACK!
WINSTON!

BRING BACK!
WINSTON!

BRING BACK!
WINSTON!

Man oh man, could the Texans use Winston right about now. Derek Newton is still growing as a player and could develop into a good player, but Winston was more than the production on-field. He was the attitude of the Texans O, the guy who was quick to call folks to the carpet and play with some fire and intensity. Sure, his game had a few flaws...but his strengths in run blocking and his fiery attitude more than make up for the flaws he had.

I don't think the Texans have the room to make a run for him at present, but if ever there was a need to find money to bring a guy back, it's here.

Welp, here we go again. Not 2 days ago Chiefs fans are saying Winston is a nice part of their OL. He's released, and now he's essentially the same as Barry Richardson?

I can definitely see the Bears w/ strong interest. Webb may have really turned a corner last year (3 sacks allowed in the first 2 games, 3 sacks allowed in the next 8, 0 sacks in the last 6) and RT was w/o a doubt the weakest position on the OL last year.

Would you consider a second round pick in a trade for Albert provided of course you can negotiate a long term contract agreement?

Absolutely, I think the Bears would as well, but they would have to extend Tillman, and likely Marshall first.

If the Packers didn't have Bulaga I would be all for signing this guy.

What he meant was JC did fine with BR at RT. He wasn't saying Winston=BR.

Word is, the Eagles were one of the first two teams to reach out to Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Winston, and so many other former Miami Hurricanes. The other team to express immediate interest apparently was the Texans, who drafted Winston in the third round in 2006.

Also, it appears he hasn't been "officially" released... just told that it was going to happen.

Cutting Winston only saved $700K in cap space. Terrible move, just opens up another hole.

To be fair, this isn't akin to when the Texans released Winston last year to free up money to sign C Chris Myers; This is along the lines of the Texans trading DeMeco Ryans to the Eagles. We took the brunt of that cap hit last year, with the intent to save the money on THIS cap, which we did - which is what allowed us to dole out the bucks needed to Duane Brown and Matt Schaub, who have their new contracts come unto play upon the start of the 2013 league year (March 12th).

Same vein. Looking at it from the perspective of what they save now isn't the way to do so, because this move is strictly made with the intent of saving the 2014 and 2015 caps.

I think what some Chief fans mean is that he was a good player for us last year, but at the same time we have a developmental guy behind him in Donald Stephenson that showed great athleticism and skill last year in 3-4 games. You know how it goes with sports and young players, we see a glimpse of them and we think that they can do the same thing for a full season.

The part that Chiefs fans and other fans need to realize is this move doesn't do anything for us this year at all essentially. But next year and the years after we save A LOT of cash and cap room, for a guy who wasn't brought in under this regime. The release of Winston doesn't hurt us on the field as much as another position would, but it also doesn't improve us (skill wise) either. It is a very complicated move no doubt.

Then what he posted doesn't in any way disagree with my post, so I'm not sure what he was getting at.

And that's a very understandable point to take, and I agree with it.

That's what I was getting at in my post. I wasn't saying you're doomed, or you'll far apart, or anything of the sort. My point was simply it will be a downgrade, how big of one remains to be seen, which hurts Charles (downgrade in his best run blocker), which transversely impacts Smith (run game taking a hit, means less reliance).

Unless anyone thinks Stephenson or whoever will come in to replace him will be an upgrade, then they don't disagree with my post.
