So who are some lesser known B and C-list FAs we can get

Gettleman talked about building the bottom of the roster. So here's some names I'll throw out for you to chew on. Just for depth purposes or rotation. Or a lower end starter.

Josh Johnson (Cleveland)
Drew Stanton (Indianapolis)
Matt Moore (Miami)

Jimmy Clausen is horrific and Derek Anderson is a free agent again. Josh Johnson could run Cam's option offense. Stanton was pretty good in Detroit from what I remember and Matt Moore rocks.

Julian Edelman (New England)
Plaxico Burress (no team)
Emmanuel Sanders (Pittsburgh)

Avery worked out well for Indy last year after being out of the league. Lots of these guys could be solid 3rd options, something we've lacked for awhile now. Burress will be cheap if he makes a comeback and was a good redzone target for the Jets. Edelman adds versatility as a sometimes corner and ST ace. Alexander is a great deep threat but has issues with injuries.

Martellus Bennett (NY Giants)
James Casey (Houston)

Bennett has the obvious Gettleman connection. Casey is a H-back type and I'm always for signing versatility. But I think I'd like Walker the most. Can also contribute on special teams. Really lacked the dynamic 2-TE sets last year and he can probably put up Shockey-esque numbers.

Sammie Lee Hill (Detroit)
Roy Miller (Tampa Bay)
Desmond Bryant (Oakland)
Pat Sims (Cincinnati)
Chris Canty (NY Giants)

All could probably start in the middle right now for us. Bryant has the arrest though which I'm sure will scare him away from us. Miller and Sims can soak up blocks and Canty and Hill can rush the QB.

Bradley Fletcher (St. Louis)

Don't think any of these guys will command big money. If we lose Captain and Gamble then we need a veteran presence at the position.

I honestly don't know too many more than who you listed, of that group I like:

Josh Johnson

--I think signing him in conjunction with keeping Anderson (or Clausen) would be a good move. A pure pocket backup is okay for spot duties (or in Madden/NCAA terms, "Wind Knocked Out"), but if Cam missed a game or two, we'd want someone who can do similar things. This backup situation would be similar to what Oakland did this past year (Leinart stepped in against us, Pryor got the next start)


Delanie Walker

--He's a very versatile player, just never been able to see the field as much as he deserves. Though he'd still be the backup, he'd see the field a lot more here than he has in San Fran, and his skills mesh very well with what we seem to be trying to move towards on offense


Sammie Lee Hill, Pat Sims

--These guys are still very young, and have a lot of upside left. Hill is the classic "buried on the depth chart" guy, and Sims has just struggled with scheme and inconsistency. If either put together full games of what they've shown in flashes, we'd look like geniuses for picking them up instead of spending a premium pick




2 guys I could see us signing would be Sims and Martellus Bennett.

I'm not the biggest fan of Bennett, but he definitely has talent, and though he probably doesn't want to relinquish the taste of being a "starting TE" that he now has, he might consider it if we show a willingness to use more 2 TE sets.

Sammie Lee Hill will probably get a lot more attention, as he's been very good in the time he's played. Probably out of our price range. Sims fits in there nicely though, as he's been on a good defense and has had plenty of opportunities, just hasn't put things together yet.

And though I think the backup QB play I laid out would be great, its probably not realistic.

I wouldnt be opposed to Donnie Avery either. Good speed, would come cheap.

I've always liked Delanie Walker. Seems like he was making splash plays fairly consistently when he got on the field. Just didn't get much opportunity behind Davis.

Walker and sims seem like players we could make a move on and would be fairly inexpensive for there amount of talent.

Other players that i think will be come cheaper than expected are Louis Delmas bc of his injury history and sean smith cb miami. Just dont think team value the cb position like they did at one time.

So if we were able to pick up 3 out those 4 this FA offseason would be a great success.

I'd be all for bringing Matt Moore back. Skill wise he's the best back up QB available.

None of the FA WR's really stick out to me. Bennett would be a great addition to the team too. It would be nice if the Gettleman connection could get us Canty.

Would love to get Sammie Hill. He's one of those guys that could really get to that next level if he signed with us and got more snaps. He was very good his first year in Detroit as a rookie.

He was the best WR based on WR rating in the NFL once he began starting for the chargers in 2012. Idk why he is not getting more attention,he was starting over Maclin at Mizzou before an injury.

Can't believe that dude didn't get with a team last season. Was a good redzone target with reliable hands in 2011. Though you have to wonder how out of shape he and Plax could be.
