Merriman entered the league as the 12th overall pick in the 2005 draft, his career started off strong with 3 straight Pro-Bowls, 3 straight All-Pros and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

In 2006 Merriman was suspended by the league for using illegal substance, that along with injuries put an end to his promising career and now at age 28 he is retiring.

Uh, Merriman's substance usage had zero to do with his end. Laughing

I wouldn't say it had zero to do with his end. Those performance enhancing drugs while making you big and strong will deteriorate your bones and tendons allowing you to be more suseptable to injury. So the fact that he couldn't stay healthy probably stems from his taking of PED's. So, I'd say it had alot to do with ending his career early.
