What is KC's ceiling with such an approach? |
Their chances of getting into the playoffs are much better now. If they can get a solid impact out of the #1 pick that will be a big boost as well. When you get into the playoffs anything can happen. If Kyle Williams doesn't fumble two punts then Smith would have led the 49ers to the superbowl. In KC he now has a pretty good supporting cast looking at the O-Line, Charles, and the go to WR in Bowe. Reid is a proven coach with a fresh start.
Our team could be energized by all of this and practice hard, play hard, and buy into our new coaches and management. This shows the other players the new organization is committed to taking care of our players and being loyal. Pioli already said he would tag Bowe, let Albert walk and draft Joeckel.
No way we shouldn't have made these moves. Can't let talent walk just to lower our ceiling. Keeping Colquitt was huge as well. Can't forget we signed arguably the best ST coach out there in Toub, who loves Colquitt. |
Okay, but let's look at it this way: what would you say, percentagewise, is the chance of KC winning the Super Bowl in the next 5 years with this core going forward? |
With an offensive core of Alex Smith/Jamaal Charles/Dwayne Bowe and a defensive core of Justin Houston/Derrick Johnson/Brandon Flowers/Eric Berry? I don't know, but probably somewhere around being towards the bottom of the top 10 in terms of teams who have a chance of winning the superbowl.
What other moves should they have made? Let these guys walk, and then what? _________________

Top 10!?
Packers
49ers
Seahawks
Falcons
Pats
Giants
Ravens
Steelers
Saints
Not to mention better young teams like Skins, Bengals, Colts
I could put you guys around 15, but Alex Smith isn't going to win a SB for you.
At least that's my opinion. _________________

I think the Chiefs can improve with this core especially in the short-term but i agree with GaTech who's raising questions about the long-term viability, and i agree with you as well. And Simon's comment about being a top 10 team in terms of future championships...this kind of hype/talk is starting to remind me of last year's infamous "13-3". _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

Smart of the Chiefs to keep Bowe around. I thought he would test the market. _________________

Very strange. I could see Warmack now being the pick because Jeff Allen is hot garbage and Joeckle/Fisher just wont make sense with Albert being tagged and Winston still being one of the better RTs in the NFL.
I dont know who else would be picked. They dont have a need for OLB with Houston and Tamba. So an OLB is probably out of the question. That knocks off all the pass rushers like Jordan, Jarvis, etc.
The Stanford Routt project failed and their 2nd best corner is Arenas and he's a nickle.
I definitely see either Chance Warmack or Dee Milliner being the top pick this year. _________________

I was pondering but couldn't remember who I missed lol.
Though, to be fair, I'm not very high on Schaub.

Neither am I, didn't stop the team from going 12-4 and making it to the elite 8. _________________

They overpaid for Colquitt, but it was a good move resigning Dwayne Bowe.
He's a heck of a WR who can do quite some damage. I hope he has a lot of success with Alex Smith throwing to him now. _________________

Out of all qualifiers, Colquitt has the 2nd lowest number of punts returned/# of punts. _________________

They have a better chance than the Giants and Ravens. There. Happy, ET? _________________

Even though i dont trust Alex Smith, i expect Dwayne Bowe to be a top 10 WR again and a 1000 yard receiver. _________________

Last year, Vincent Jackson got $55.55M over 5 with $26M. This year, Bowe gets 5/$56M. Bowe is third-highest paid WR. |
I said 5 year 65 with 25 gtd. I was close. either way he is the third highest in both examples. _________________

Here are the contract details according to Profootballtalk.com. Based on this, his cap charge for 2013 appears to be $4,000,000 and from wh at I could tell, the Chiefs could theoretically cut him prior to the 2015 season and realize a cap savings for 2015 of $2,000,000.
| Quote: | Per a source with knowledge of the contract, here it is.
1. $15 million signing bonus.
2. $750,000 fully-guaranteed base salary in 2013.
3. $250,000 workout bonus in each year of the contract.
4. $8.75 million base salary in 2014, $4.25 million of which is fully guaranteed now and $4.5 million of which is guaranteed for injury only now. The $4.5 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 league year.
5. $10.75 million base salary in 2015. $1.5 million is guaranteed for injury now, and it becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 (not 2015) league year.
6. $9.75 million base salary in 2016.
7. $9.75 million base salary in 2017.
It adds up to $36 million over the first three years, and $56 million over five. Of the amount, $26 million is guaranteed. $20 million is fully guaranteed now. The other $6 million becomes fully guaranteed next year.
