Does anyone seriously think that Jerry would trade Spencer? I know speculation is fun, but Jerry hasn't traded a roster player for picks in the first two rounds since he bought the team (I belive that research was by Bob Sturm).

Herschel Walker?

I believe Bob said "since Jimmy left". Sorry, that was my fault.

Jimmy was the catalyst for that trade, but it happened while Joan was the owner.

Jerry had also never spent a 1st round pick, let alone a top ten pick, on an OL since he bought the team until two seasons ago. Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean it can't.

I hope you're right, and I am wrong. I just don't see it happening. Jerry always thinks we're 1 or 2 quick fixes away from the SB, and trading a player for picks requires some foresight.

If he got the Kiffin/Marinelli stamp of approval, he has my stamp of approval.

So one of the best DL coaches in the league agrees with me and disagrees with Slam and Plan?

Hmmm...

That obviously says a lot. At the same time, I would not be opposed to trading him for picks.

Spencer was the defense's best player last year and arguably the team's best player; not that surprising that they'd want to keep him at all costs based on tape from last year. I still question the scheme fit but it's their scheme, not mine, so I'm a little more optimistic.

50yrs of combined coaching experience and I say they are wrong. Go figure, guess that's probably why I sit here at a keyboard. lol.

That said, I just can't see it. Make no mistake, not saying Spencer is bad, he's far from it. I've just seen enough of the almosts and heard enough about the mailing it in, to not want anymore of him. Trade him. Get what you can. Save some money. Walk away happy.

Pair of DE's under 265 doesn't instill a great deal of confidence in me.

Got Peyton a ring. (yeah Freeney is listed at 268 these days, but Mathis is 245, Spencer and Ware out total them).

Peyton got his ring, because he's Peyton...add in a sprickle of Bob Sanders all-world season and attitude, and the rest fell into place.

Notice this was allegedly said after watching 2012 film. Spencer played like a beast at times in 2012... especially toward the end of the year. i don't think Plan9 or I were critical of Spencer in 2012. It's just unfortunate that it took a contract year with a franchise tag for him to pull his head out. If they would have watched the 2010 film on Spencer, I'm very confident their response would have been "cut the BASTARD."

I was critical of Spencer in 2012 for waiting for a contract year to have a great season. He lazily played through his entire contract until the point where he's looking for a new deal.
