Thank God we didn't sign him to a long term deal. I can deal with a 1 year Tag, or even better trade him. BUT NO LONG TERM DEAL. Kthxbye

Anthony Spencer's salary as franchise player is $10.56M based on being LB last year. Moving to DE where tender is $11.175M. CBA favors team.

I would love this, but who would trade for him? We would be asking for at least a 2nd rounder, and who would give that up when they also have to sign him to a long extension?

You can also throw San Diego into the mix as well. That defense has been in need of OLB help for a while. They keep trying to bring in guys, but they haven't worked out.

This isn't like trading for 26 year old Jared Allen. This is someone who is coming off his best year, age 29, and isn't on the level of a guy like Allen. With him likely commanding Lamaar Woodley money, I would bet most teams would be very very hesitant to trade for him.

I may be in the extreme minority here, but I like this move and I'm willing to give him that long term deal as well.

1. Why take a position of strength and let it dwindle to a possible position of need.

2. Proven pass rushers are hard to find. They have one of the top bust rates.

3. Those who says he wont transition to the 4-3 DE, go back to his college tape, and, he has played with his hand in the dirt in Dallas, just as Ware has.

4. If Kiffen wants Spencer, I'm all for it. Kiffen is one of the best D Coaches in the NFL and he knows what he has. Besides, Marinelli will have some nice play toys to work with. Now we don't have to reach for a DE in the draft.

I just dont get all the hate for Spencer. Never have!

Considering hie's not a natural fit for the 4-3, I guess one of the other thing we can do with Almost Anthony is to use him the Giants do with Kiwanuka: play him at multiple positions depending on the situtation. Kiwi isn't a natural fit for the 4-3 defense either, but Coughlin has been able to put him in situations to get the most out of him. Perhaps that may be some of the thinking behind this move, because there's no way that a 250 Lb guy can hold up as a fulltime DE.

Perhaps move him from SAM to DE and Hatcher from DE to DT on Run vs Pass plays?

If I was Jerry, I'd be calling the Texans and Wade Phillips to try to work out a trade for Spencer. My luck though, he would go there and become a legitimate Pro Bowl caliber player.

Are we allowed to accept less than 2 - 1st round picks for Spencer?
