Id really like to try and work out a trade up for Slay or Rambo.
Unless yall think one of them will be there at our next pick. _________________

Lil Uno
Do we have a full big board that we can get a look at to find potential targets for our next pick?
Is there anyone that necessitates a "must trade up" scenario. _________________

If we aren't going after Barkley I would say FS is our biggest need. At FS I would go after:
1. Jordan Poyer
2. David Amerson
3. Shamarko Thomas
I think a trade up for Jordan Poyer would be very prudent. He is one of the best players left on the board, has experience at both safety and CB, and is a great kick/punt returner. He could play FS this year, and maybe even move to CB once Winfield retires. We also need a returner now that Harvin is gone.
If you are looking for great value and a starting player who will get lots of playing time, Poyer is your guy. _________________

Isn't he more of a man-corner? _________________

Not a fan of taking hybrid CB/S types.
I'd prefer Rambo over Thomas since Thomas is a bit more one-dimensional. |

| CBS wrote: | | PLAYERS TO WATCH: CB Jordan Poyer has been the leader of the defense all season. He leads the Beavers in interceptions with seven, and that despite missing one game with an ankle injury. But it's more the presence he's brought to the unit with his confidence which has carried over in Oregon State's turnaround season. - The Sports Xchange |
| CBS wrote: | [Poyer] stepped up his level of play considerably, emerging in just his second season at cornerback (previously was a reserve safety) to earn Second Team Pac-12 honors with career-highs in tackles (57), passes broken up (12) and interceptions (four), including one the second interception of his career for a touchdown.
Half of Poyer's six career interceptions came against NFL-caliber quarterbacks, as he picked off Brock Osweiler twice last year and Matt Barkley in OSU's stunning 36-7 demolition of the Trojans in 2010. Not only did Poyer demonstrate the confidence and athleticism necessary to handle the one on one responsibilities expected of cornerbacks in OSU's blitz-heavy scheme, he continued in his role as the Beavers' primary returner, averaging a gaudy 14.1 yards per return on punts (including an 85-yard touchdown vs. UCLA) and carrying a 25.9 career average on kick returns. |
| CBS wrote: | Strengths: Balanced athlete with good closing burst. Tough and competes with very good eye discipline. Sets the edge and works hard to shed, playing stronger than he looks. Gets physical and matches up well with bigger receivers. Nice job reading the eyes of the quarterback and puts himself in position to make a play on the ball.
Willing run defender and throws his body around, taking accurate angles. Quick learner as a former safety, moving to cornerback in 2010 and starting the past two seasons. Good experience in zone coverage, often moving inside to cover the slot receiver. Leader of the secondary and a fiery player. Extensive special teams experience on kickoff and punt returns. Former Oregon State baseball player. |

I have Darius Slay ahead of Jordan Poyer.
Poyer had the 2nd lowest Vertical of all CB tested at the combine.
Thats a problem when your not able to high point a pass with a deflection.
Looks to be a red zone liability _________________

Hrmm, guess I'm not sure on either of them. Poyer's poor vertical is concerning, but Slay's lack of physicality is more concerning to me. We expect our corners to play the run and Slay doesn't do that very well. _________________

Slay is a coverage CB
If we're looking at a mix, Jamar Taylor could be the option.
I'm not familar with him, but he is the highest remaning CB prospect for CBS.
| Quote: | STRENGTHS: Instinctive, dependable cornerback with good overall size and athleticism. Versatile corner with extensive experience playing off-man and zone coverage. Possesses a quick, tight back pedal and has fluid hips to turn and run with receivers.
Good straight-line speed and possesses good burst out of his breaks. Reportedly was timed at 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash by Boise State coaches.
Breaks quickly on underneath routes, showing the ability to close on the ball to make the interception. Good ball skills, including good leaping ability and timing. Good upper body strength and competitiveness for jump-ball situations.
Reliable run defender who doesn't back down from a challenge. Keeps his containment responsibilities, showing the ability to break free from blocks and is a reliable open field tackler who plays with toughness. Named a team captain in 2012 and is viewed by the coaching staff as one of the team's hardest workers.
WEAKNESSES: Only occasionally asked to play press and may lack the size and arm length to fit in this scheme. Aggressive and can be fooled by double-moves.
Was rarely challenged in 2012 and hasn't faced top-notch competition on a weekly basis throughout his career. Has struggled a bit with injuries and will need to be checked closely by team doctors at the Combine. |

I really like Poyer as a slot CB. He would be the perfect replacement for Winfield, and his versatility and return ability is not something to overlook.
Thoughts on Amerson? _________________

I also like Jamar Taylor. Would rather have him than Poyer. _________________

Once again, I am concerned that we're using our high picks to take players who will most likely ride the pine for a good portion of the year as opposed to guys who can come in and replace a starter immediately.
One in the hand being worth two in the bush and such. |
