If we aren't going after Barkley I would say FS is our biggest need. At FS I would go after:
1. Jordan Poyer
2. David Amerson
3. Shamarko Thomas
I think a trade up for Jordan Poyer would be very prudent. He is one of the best players left on the board, has experience at both safety and CB, and is a great kick/punt returner. He could play FS this year, and maybe even move to CB once Winfield retires. We also need a returner now that Harvin is gone.
If you are looking for great value and a starting player who will get lots of playing time, Poyer is your guy.

Not a fan of taking hybrid CB/S types.
I'd prefer Rambo over Thomas since Thomas is a bit more one-dimensional. |

I have Darius Slay ahead of Jordan Poyer.
Poyer had the 2nd lowest Vertical of all CB tested at the combine.
Thats a problem when your not able to high point a pass with a deflection.
Looks to be a red zone liability

Hrmm, guess I'm not sure on either of them. Poyer's poor vertical is concerning, but Slay's lack of physicality is more concerning to me. We expect our corners to play the run and Slay doesn't do that very well.

Slay is a coverage CB
If we're looking at a mix, Jamar Taylor could be the option.
I'm not familar with him, but he is the highest remaning CB prospect for CBS.

I really like Poyer as a slot CB. He would be the perfect replacement for Winfield, and his versatility and return ability is not something to overlook.
Thoughts on Amerson?

Once again, I am concerned that we're using our high picks to take players who will most likely ride the pine for a good portion of the year as opposed to guys who can come in and replace a starter immediately.
One in the hand being worth two in the bush and such. |
