I don't normally do these, but joked to my brother like a month ago after Dorsey was hired, I would do one that had us trading our 2nd rounder for a QB and taking DL with our #1 pick...just to make sure it didn't happen
This mock will not assume we are able to trade out of our #1 spot (I hope we can) or that we'll be able to sign any big FA's of note other than our own (it'd be nice to get one key FA). Rather, I'm trying to make a conservative mock that might show what our roster might look like in a somewhat worst case scenario. I won't bother mentioning our lower end FA's.
Trade-A.Smith for 2nd round pick
Re-sign-Bowe, Colquitt
Franchise-Albert
Restructure-T.Jackson
Cut-Cassel
Convince-Lilja that it's worth coming back
FA or trade next year's 6th-Tebow (only because they seem interested)
*Does anyone know in this scenario if there is even a possibility of scooping up a CB like DRC or S.Smith?
Draft:
1. Ezekial Ansah DE BYU/Best DL
3a .Darius Slay CB Miss St/Markus Wheaton WR Ore ST
3b. Steadman Bailey WR WV/Robert Alford CB SE LA
4.Robert Lester SS Bama or DJ Swearinger FS S.Car
5. Kevin Reddick ILB UNC or AJ Klein ILB Iowa St
6. Scott Gragg TE Ark
7. Knile Davis RB Ark
QB-A.Smith,Stanzi,Tebow
RB-Charles, Hillis? ,Gray,K.Davis
FB-that guy that's not Eachus
WR-Bowe,Copper
WR-Baldwin,Hemingway
WR-Bailey
Slot-DMX,Wylie
LT-Albert,Stephenson
LG-Allen, Lilja?
C-Hudson
RG-Asomoah
RT-Winston
DE-Ansah,Bailey
NT-Poe,Powe, Toribio
DE-Jackson, Pitooey?
OLB-Tamba,Studebaker?
ILB-DJ
ILB-Reddick,Siler?
OLB-Houston
CB-Flowers,Brown
CB-Slay,Daniels?
NB-Arenas,Menzie
S-Berry,Lester

There is a possibility we are targeting a CB. First there was the Sean Smith controversy and then Albert Breer said yesterday that he knows for a fact we are "sniffing around" the CB market. _________________

pretty much zero chance that Ansah goes #1. if we go DE it'll be Floyd most likely. _________________

I thot he was like the worst of those top guys...don't we want one of our DE's to be a good pass rushing threat? Anyways, thats why I put the slash, cuz I don't know who they might target. Besides, him and Tamba on the right side could become the "African Nightmare". _________________

yeah he's the worst guy in my opinion, but as you know, I usually don't hold the "standard" view. _________________

Plus, I definitely don't think his best position is as a 5 technique in the 3-4 defense. If I were an offensive coordinator, I know where I would run the ball if I see Ansah lining up as a 5-tech. _________________

AR58,
Curious, why are you high on Darius Slay? _________________

I don't know if high is the word...we need a CB and this mock is assuming we don't get one in FA. I wanted a 2nd round corner. He's a good compliment to Flowers, he's got good speed and height...he's got good ball skills and we need to force more TO's. He will struggle in run defense/tackling, but it's not the biggest necessity to have 2 great tackling corners. _________________

I had forgotten TE...but this mock is looking pretty good in that we re-signed our own guys and likely won't get a starter in FA. Now it's mostly up to the draft to see what happens.

I really like most of your picks. Slay in rd 3 is excellent. For some either/or options, I don't think they would fall that far (Swearinger/Reddick), but the other options are solid. Not a fan of Ziggy with the #1 overall... but not a fan of anyone #1 overall. _________________

Again, not a Chiefs fan but I like Alex Smith and since that trade I've been chiming in here quite a bit and looking forward to seeing how things work out for the Chiefs.
Here's my thoughts on this draft:
First of all, on Slay; I actually think Slay is going to be a very good CB but I also think he might be a guy that can be moved back to Safety.
I agree that Ansah is likely not going to be the #1 pick, if DE goes #1 it'll be Floyd, having said that.. I think Ansah is going to be very good.
IF I were a Chiefs fan and this is the exact way the draft went for my team....I'd be *****ng ecstatic! Lester, imo is going to be really good, he looked great at the Combine, I also think Reddick is going to be decent, especially if you were to get him in the 5th, imo, he's better than Klein. Bailey would be an amazing pick imo. Really good compliment to Bowe, much needed investment. Gragg & Davis are right about where they should be picked and might turn out to be good picks as well, low risk, high reward.
Just for fun..I added a hypothetical change to your mock(taking away the no-trade assumption): *I realize this is as unrealistic as it gets lol*
The Kansas City Chiefs have traded the #1 Overall Pick to the San Fransisco 49ers; With the #1 overall pick, the San Fransisco 49ers select CB Dee Milliner
Trade Details: The Kansas City Chiefs Trade the #1 overall Pick & to the San Fransisco 49ers for the #31 Overall Pick, #33 overall pick (yep..i'm serious you got it back) the #12 overall Pick in the 3rd round(from Carolina), #24 overall pick in 5th round (from Colts), & #12 overall pick in the 6th round(from Dolphins)
With those picks the KC Chiefs select as follows:
#31: WR - Justin Hunter
#33: Matt Elam
5th Round Pick: OLB Zaviar Gooden
6th Round Pick: OG Omeregie Uzzi
*The #33 overall pick is based on an assumption that D.J. Swearinger makes it to you in the 4th.[/b] |

| 0 chance for ansah IMO. If a 3-4 team picks him it will be an attacking 3-4 team that will play him at olb IMO |

The only hole in this mock that I see is Allen being penciled in as the starter again next year without any real competition. I get that he's only a 2nd year player and he COULD improve, but given his lackluster (I'm being nice) level of play his rookie year, he NEEDS some competition.
Love the rest of the mock, though. Loves me some Ansah. _________________
