49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

An NFL source says that the framework of the deal is that the 49ers will get a No. 2 pick this year and a similar pick in the 2014 draft.

Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

Anyone want to guess what we gave up?

My guess is our 3rd rounder. If so then I won't be mad. Just don't want our 2nd rounder involved.

Alex Smith isn't even 29 yet so this gives us someone who could be our QB for the next 4-5 years if he plays at a high level. If he doesn't then we draft a QB after one or two years and move on. Low risk, High reward type of move.

Two 2nd rounders?

You've got to be kidding me.

Ugh. Great. Not a fan of the compensation at all.

That said, I'm now on the Ansah to KC bandwagon at #1 overall.

And our 2nd this year might as well be considered a first!!! What a joke. Way to bend that chubby rear end over there Reid!

I'd be fine with that. Just don't want a LT the more I think about it. Keep Albert and if he gets hurt, so be it. We have Stephenson.

Pick #34 in a class that's very deep in the 20-40 range, and ANOTHER second rounder, for a 28 year old (29 when the season starts) who is at best an average starter.

Feels like a robbery is taking place.

Yeah sorry I'm fine with trading for smith. He makes sense and could play right away and help us compete BUT that compensation is a complete joke. Sounds like Reid and Dorsey panicked with teams like zona and Cleveland "reportedly" sniffing around smith too and wanted a deal done now! Rape job IMO and after that trade they made I have little faith in our draft going well.
